Even though we are mainly an online organisation, LongeCity has always been supportive of in-person meetings. How and when LongeCity can take a useful role in these gatherings will vary ( ⇒ Members discussion), but the least we can do is to encourage them and provide ideas and resources. 

 

In this context, we are asking for suggestions for: agendas, material, and the running of events.

 

 

All useful entries below can receive a ₮ulip from anyone. 

 

Particularly great responses will receive a free ticket to the HEALES conference.

some initial pointers:

• use the regional forums and the longecity facebook page initially. Once a group has formed (but not before) set up your own group forum.
• use the members map and encourage others to do so
• when looking for members, don't use the normal forum search - instead go to our Members Roster, click on "More Search Options" -- make sure you filter according to the "Meetings" tick-box preferences    
• apply for a small grant to cover guest speaker travel costs or room hire
• if you are contributing to or helping with a larger meeting, Longecity will not be able to fund it all, but we are usually keen to sponsor video, streaming, or reports - anything that allows the proceedings to be shared more widely   
• advertise locally and invite people to longecity at the meeting or via email
• YOLF has written a helpful guide for starting chapters

Potentially stupid ideas but I will share in case they are useful:

• Hiring an area to have a little stall to provide information leaflets to the public. There could also be little badges/crafts to raise funds for longevity research and also to help cover costs of the event. A raffle could also be included.
• Perhaps some group somewhere could potentially look at putting on some sort of exhibition covering beliefs about longevity/myths through the ages that also incorporates a scientific part promoting life extension and dispelling some myths. An exhibition of artists all looking at the theme of life extension could be another idea.
• Maybe considering having flyers ready for download, printing and giving out if we do not already have them here. I think we did have them at some point.
• For an agenda, a simple meeting of everyone and going round the group finding out what everyone's interests in this cause are and what skills they would like to use to help out.

I'm sure that many people here have much better ideas than me.

Live meetings are definitely a living heart of the movement!

 

The Longevity Day (October 1) was mentioned. In the past it was very successful in bringing people together. In case someone organizes some meeting or publication for the Longevity Day / Longevity Month campaign in October – in support of biomedical research of aging and longevity – will

be grateful for letting know (sharing/linking). It will also give encouragement to others! I will try to make a register and publicize all the meetings of the campaign together.
