Where I Am
So, this entry will both wrap up my autobiography and tell the reader a bit about my current views and beliefs.
I spend the weekdays working for my father. He runs a wholesale meat company. My main job right now is to computerize the inventory/invoices for the whole company since we currently do handwritten invoices. I basically do this in between checking the imminst forums and doing related things on the web.
I'm majoring in Cognitive Science at UCLA. I've got one quarter left, which I will complete in the winter. I'm not sure exactly what I "want to do in life." It's very difficult for me since I believe in this cause so much. I'm constantly thinking of ways to contribute meaningfully from big to small.
I figure the are a couple "fast tracks" to success. One would be to come up with an idea that would make lots of money. I actually think I have some pretty decent ideas if anyone is willing to hear them out and I trust them enough. Many of my ideas are inventions. Some are pretty bad, but I think I have a couple gems where if I hooked up with the right people (electricians/electrical engineers), we could make some money. Or at least I could find out if the ideas are worthwhile. My other ideas have been about theoretical science. I've always been interested in physical science, Philosophy, Psychology, Computer Science, etc. For years I have been trying to come up with something that will have a meaningful impact on a field. I have been much less successful in that area than with my invention ideas.
Right now the "medium track" is me working for my dad. The company is already very successful and if I can improve its efficiency with this new computerized invoice system, the business can grow even more. I can bring my father's business into the age of technology, which is actually very exciting to me.
The other option is to go into my field and do research. This only appeals to me because it could lead to me discovering some great new theory in Psychology and/or Computer Science. Maybe I could design the first AGI? Who knows?
So that's where I am in life. That basically wraps up my little autobiography, so my next entry will be more about my specific beliefs and ideas.
