Lightbulbs Hoarded

Posted by Luminosity , in Personal 29 December 2013 · 689 views

Actually able to sleep through the night since some stuff got better. Woke up feeling like I could do something. Went to an industrial area to do some errands. First I found a bakery/cafe I've been wanting to go to for a while. It was in a converted factory. Since they don't totally believe in posting business addresses or giving accurate directions here I had to suss the location out by feeling. I found it! The sun in the parking lot was searing. I went inside. It was a handsome, modern space with a high ceiling, but it was hot. They had French onion soup! Thank God somebody does. It wasn't everything I had hoped for, but actually finding it and eating there seemed like an accomplishment. Next I went to a chain home improvement store that always makes me feel disoriented. I always seem to be there longer than I should be. There were a couple of employees, ladies, who were talking to me like I was an idiot, but most of the employees were very good. I found the lightbulb aisle. It took a while to get the guy to believe I wanted to buy cases of incandescent lightbulbs. It took too long, like he was judgmental that they weren't environmental and the new ones were just as good, although he had never personally used them. When I had called on the phone another clerk informed me that incandescent bulbs didn't sell because they were useless and just wasted energy.

Thanks for the information.

After too long a time a ladder was found and cases of light bulbs came down from a high shelf and into my cart. Whew! My hip joints hurt from all the standing but, mission accomplished. I got some other things at the store. Some clerks were very helpful but one was a bitch. I think it was racial. Added a strange ugly note to the proceedings. Anyway, I got my stuff. I had to walk past half the check out counters to find one that wasn't self service. Their lightbulb prices are a lot cheaper than what you get in drugstores and grocery stores. I eventually found my car in the parking lot and got onto the road. There was a surprising amount of traffic and it was surprisingly fast. I drove away from the warehouse district towards the center of town. Rain had cleaned the air. A benevolent light fell on Chinatown and a flock of white birds fluttering above a sidewalk. I saw the open stores selling fruit, and the closed banks. I drove through the quiet downtown, as it was Saturday, and came to where I am now.
