The United States Congress is trying to tax internet purchases. They are trying to pass a law forcing internet merchants to collect state sales taxes for your state government on things you buy from other states. That means internet merchants would have to keep track of sales taxes from fifty states and remit payments to them. If you lived in New York State and bought something from a company in Nevada, they'd have to collect New York State sales taxes from you and send them to New York State.
