Hey all-

What supplements have been truly transformational for you? Either due to a severe deficiency, or perhaps more interestingly, in a healthy subject, but that had a dramatic positive effect?

Mine are:
1. Vitamin D. This rectified a severe deficiency and the effects were profound.

2. NSI189. As others have written, this is a total game-changer even in healthy subjects.

Hawthorne berry surprisingly lowered my blood pressure better than any other supplement.

And Citrus Bergamot increased my HDL better then any other supplement.

As for improving total cholesterol there used to be a Chinese red yeast rice extract maybe 10 years ago you could buy a eBay. I think the FDA banned it but it was incredible it worked better than statins.

What were your before and after numbers while using Bergamot?

12 30 2017 Started taking Bergamot Extract at 500 mg, once per day. To my unscientific eye, I see significant lowering of Total Cholesterol and LDL Cholesterol. (No advance lipid tests have been done, and maybe fasting blood glucose.

I am not claiming this as transformational. Just F.Y.I since it was mentioned above. Starting about 1 year ago, my way of eating is very low carb (20 total grams) , moderate protein (60 to 70 grams) and mostly saturated fat enough to maintain my weight .I have been eating about 3 tablespoons of Ghee, 4 tablespoons or more of C8 Mct oil, fat from an avocado every day and maybe 10 tablespoons added animal based fat. Prior to the last year, I was at about 50 grams total carbs, and a higher protein level. I also would go on binges of desserts. maybe every 45 days or so.

Based on these results, I bought enough Bergavit to take 500 mg per day for over 6 more months. Could switch to 1000 mgs if anybody thinks it could indicate any confidence increase in what my numbers show.

Swanson bergamot (Bergavit) extract is 30 capsules at 500 mg per capsule standardized to 25% (neoeriocitrin, naringin, neohesperidin)]

I take testosterone which negatively impacts HDL. My HDL was 29 and after about three months of 500 mg citrus bergamot every morning on an empty stomach by Jarrow it increased to 45.

There's no doubt I feel mostly better, and perform better physically than I can remember in recent memory, but it's difficult to pin these good feelings down to any one supplement.  I take many each day, combined with regular extended exercise. And then, based on results I see and feel over time, I evolve my regimen. Which is the magic pill(s) then?  I say long term use of plant based supplements...and mostly plant based diet... has transformed my body over time, but to pick one out ... ?

What’s your stack?

^ I have several, don't want to litter your thread with them all. But, recently this "NAD++ with sirtuin boost" stack seems to be doing something special, giving me repeatable EXTRA energy on my 20-30 mile morning cycling outings. Doubt there is much placebo effect when you exercise. Either you can do it, hopefully do it better, or you can't. I record my route speed, HR, elevation change, over the same routes, so it's easy to compare.

This stack is part of my regular breakfast as of late. I take it with one pouch of oatmeal (fiber to slow absorption), 18 grams brewers yeast, all in a giant mug of milk and coffee.

Oakman,

My (non educated) would be the pterostilbene and/or resveratrol is causing that effect for you. I have taken all of the other substances in the stack at one time or another in higher ,and sometimes much higher doses than that and I never felt as strong as an effect as with the pterostillbene in terms of energy at such a small dose.

Up until a couple months ago, I'd been taking pterostilbene daily (with NR) for over a year, and had stopped as I didn't note anything with that combo particularly, but kept taking NR just because...well, I have hope (faith?) and a 6 months supply left. Also I've been taking resveratrol nightly (liposomal with curcumin) for the past 6 months that I do feel has been helpful.

Bottom line is the new things here (as supplement) are the NA, NMN, and NAM, Taurine, and Tryptophan, as well as oatmeal and brewers yeast as a extended release fiber carrier with add'l nutritional content.

What’s your reason for taurine in the morning? It’s inhibitory, isn’t it?

I don't know what you are referring to. As a semi-vegetarian, I need a bit of taurine supplementation. I don't know of any downsides (rather many, many upsides) to this compound this side of excessive energy drink consumption perhaps. I don't use those.

Hmm I’m semi vegetarian too. Saw one study that it reduced motor learning in young mice...that’s what put me off, but obviously that’s quite narrow.

What effects do you note? I was pretty sure it was added to energy drinks to blunt them somewhat.

I make capsules of the mix, so I can't say on Taurine alone. It does so much...
