Why a lot of people take drug that only work in short term and produce the oposite in long term ?

martinkale, without an example(s) it could be difficult to determine what you're referring to.
"drug"?--prescription, over-the-counter, "street", other?
"work in short term and produce the oposite in long term"--tachyphylaxis?, bradyphylaxis?
"opposite"--in what respect(s)?
Just want some clarification so that "talking past each other" might be less likely to occur.
