The α1 receptor prefers norepinephrine. It constricts blood vessels, increases blood pressure, contracts the iris muscle in the eye, and reduces activity in the digestive tract. The β1 receptor also prefers norepinephrine. It increases heart rate and contraction force. the α2 receptor prefers epinephrine, the β2 receptor also prefers epinephrine.

Motor control
CB1 receptors are expressed throughout motor regions of the mammalian brain, suggesting that CB1 has a role in motor control. CB1 activation has been shown to effect specific kinematic variables in rodents, such as the rate of applied force during lever pressing,[33] and the amplitude (but not timing) of whisker movements.
