Hi,
I think I’m dealing with OCD tendencies that manifest themselves in unwanted sexual thoughts. As a single Christian man, I don’t want these. They’re stronger than typical thoughts I don’t want. Deliverance has helped but there seems to be an imbalance somewhere. I think I’m also dealing with sleep apnea too, which supposedly can deplete serotonin levels. I plan on seeing a sleep specialist to get tested. Apparently those who tolerate CPAP well have positively affected their mood and I assume that means that hormones are more likely to come into balance like serotonin. Anyway, in the meantime, I’ve experimented with l-tryptophan and then tried St. John’s wort (separate of course) and both seem to work for what seems to be OCD. From what I read about SJW, there’s a lot of concerns about potential side effects. For l-tryptophan, it appears you’re supposed to balance it with l-tyrosine. I’m really not sure the best option for me and I’m looking for opinions on how to regulate serotonin levels (and maybe dopamine too). I don’t want to take prescription medication and I’d prefer to take something more natural if possible. I have a few questions that may lead to more questions:
1. If I didn’t have any noticeable side effects of roughly 600 mg/day of SJW, will I develop any problems later?
2. If I go the l-tryptophan and l-tyrosine route, what’s the best way to supplement to maintain balance and to have enough daytime serotonin to alleviate OCD symptoms?
3. Any other thoughts on how to address this?
Thanks!
