Hello everyone, 

 

I would like to wish Merry Christmas for everyone! 

 

I am seriously thinking on immortality. And when I define the concept of immortality, I mean that the person who is immortal never dies. As we now know, the Universe will probably end. It may not be an actual question nowadays, because most people think that there is no human who can live that long. But if we, the people who are alive today, we reach indefinite life extension, or immortality in our lifetime, and this would mean us to live forever, we should think about how we could survive.

As I think in the I. Phase we will cure aging, and reverse it. This would be a temporary solution to give us more time to reach real 'immortality'. As I hope the first therapies will arrive at around 2025 or 2030, and hopefully countries would buy these therapies. It is a win-win situation, because if people never ages, that would mean that the government would not pay pension, and the economy would be drastically better. It is good for the countries, and also the people who wants to live forever. While we are working on therapies, we could lower the rates of accidents, and prevent natural disasters. A famous theoretical physicist Michio Kaku said we are in a Civilization type 0, and soon will be in Civilization type 1, which will include 'immortality' and 'weather controlling'. If we will be in that type of civilization, that allows us to control the weather, and if we can control the weather, why could not we control the natural disasters, and accidents? So that would lower the death rates drastically. There are lots of deaths caused by traffic accidents, or other accidents, and natural disasters. If these are not exists, we almost eliminated death for good. Of course it is so much work, but I think it is worth it.

 

And when we finally reached indefinite life extension 'immortality', after a few billion years serious problems will come what we need to fix. Fortunately, we have plenty of time to prepare, and when the first problem comes (death of the Sun) hopefully we will have solutions. A super artificial intelligence could solve this. Of course we need to control the AI to work for us, and not to destroy us. If this AI works for us, and helps us, then it may help us to survive the end of the Universe. 

 

I have some questions, which are unanswered, with our current technology we cannot answer them, but I think they are worth to share with you. I am waiting for your opinion, I am interested about what do you think about this. What if the Universe will not end? What if our physical models are not good? You know, there is a saying which says "Human makes mistakes, that is what makes us human." I heard about physicists who claim, and tries to prove that the end of the Universe will never come. If that is the case, it will make things easier for us. 

 

If it will come, we have more solutions. Scientists are trying to prove that we live in a multiverse. I read an article about scientists who could make a 'Universe' in a laboratory. With our current knowledge, we have one solution which would be definitely work - as some scientists said. We could make an artificial Universe, or we could go to another Universe to survive ours. 

 

But I am really hoping that we can stay here, solve our problems, and live forever hear. What do you think about this? How do you imagine immortality? What do you think is the best solution to survive the death of our Sun? Would we keep our Sun 'alive' as ourselves? There are possible ways to keep the Sun alive, it is not impossible, there is no law which would deny us to do this. And finally, about the Universe. Do you think it will ever end? If it does, how would we survive? Would we go to another Universe? Or just some civilians would go to another Universe, and volunteers would save this Universe, and when everything is safe civilians would come back?

 

Thank you for reading my article, I know this may sound a little bit stupid, but I think someone should think about the far future, our survival, our immortal future.

You are very optimistic. More likely than not that our generation will not see effective therapies that slow and eventually reverse aging. I would worry about this first, focus on this, and do whatever i can to help our generation beat aging. Odds are currently against us on this very first challenge towards real immortality.

Well, maybe I'm optimistic because I'm very young, but maybe because I know that technology improves very fast. More and more anti-aging therapies are in human trials. You are pessimistic, you do not see how these therapies are improving. And you do not know what breakthrough will come tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow. What if a huge breakthrough will come in aging tomorrow? Lots of companies would want to sell it for people, and of course, the governments would want this. Or, if an anti-aging company shows real results in anti-aging therapies, I think countries would start to fund researches in this field, because it would worth it for them, and for us too.

I too am optimistic and believe therapies that will  drastically extend our lifespan will be available within 30 years. These therapies will improve iteratively at a greater rate than we age, so you are correct - the main threat will then become death from other, non-aging causes. We should certainly be able to overcome all disease and potentially natural disasters, although man made disasters will remain a definite threat to individual lives.

 

I think keeping the sun alive is very difficult, and also irrelevant. By the time it starts getting too hot on Earth in say 500 million years, Mars will be getting a  much warmer climate. When the sun is a red giant, likely the moons of the outer gas planets will be much more hospitable. And long before all of this, humankind should have the capability to live indefinitely in space habitats independent of the sun, and also travel to any other stars in the galaxy should we wish to. It is doubtful at this point that we will be 'human' as we currently recognize it. We may be the product of man and AI, or we might diversify into many sentient lifeforms adapted the various environments we find around the galaxy. We might even lose interest in the physical universe and live entirely in the 'cyberverse' perhaps?

 

The heat death of the universe does seem to put an absolute time limit on our survival, though perhaps we will be able to use the 'energy of the vacuum' to seed another universe, or access other universes through a wormhole. On those timescales, who knows what is possible?

Dying after the heat death of the Universe is not necessary. To solve that problem, people from the very distant future (eventually we) would need to build an artificial closed energy system, in which nothing is lost, neither the energy, nor the matter, and to start living in it. Such a system is not scientifically impossible, which means, that it is a matter of time to be constructed. Something like a black bubble floating in the space, that can take matter and energy but not letting it out. Until the cold death of the Universe we have billions of years to do it.
Experiments with designing and building closed matter systems and closed energy systems have been done at least from the 70's. A large enough completely closed and isolated energy and matter system, is an enough solution of the problem.

According to me this solution is the most possible, compared with the other science fictions such as inventing the perpetum mobile; building the super fast and enormously powerful transport that to be much faster then the speed of the light, that to be used to reach and recollect back the energy and the matter from the end of the universe back to the center; creating a new universe from the nothing; or harvesting wormholes to parallel universes.

Mm.. It's very interesting, I have never heard about this approach, it seems the most possible solution. If you look at the years, how long humans have been alive, you can see that in centuries we get here where we are right now, we know that the Universe will end, we know how to eliminate aging. Technology was improving very slowly. Look at the technology right now. With this speed it may take us less time to figure out a plan, than it took us to know the problem!

Gravity protects against that ripping apart.

 

The matter in the space, surrounding the earth is not that much already. And the planet is not ripping  apart.

 

How about the black holes? When do you expect to rip them apart?

Due to quantum effects, black holes are expected to evaporate. However, it is expected to take trillions of years for this to happen.....or some ridiculously long period of time.

We have enough time to make a survival plan. No one knows exactly what the future will bring, but if we could survive lot of awful things, then this shouldn't be impossible.

A question for all of you:

If we can eliminate death, and diseases, which seemed impossible decades and centuries ago, then what is impossible?

I confess, that I don't have much knowledge in planetary physics and astronomy, but as far as I know, the models for ripping the atoms apart from the absolute vacuum are based on calculations, but are not backed up with sure experiments.

They are only a theoy. Mathematics is good, but it needs to be backed up with more solid evidences that what you calculate is possible.

For example, by investigating how much your car slows down after pressing the stop pedal for 1 second, you may calculate how long you will need to hold the stop pedal in order the speed of the car to become minus ten killometers per hour. It will be mathematically very sound, but minus ten km/h simply does not exist. When you press the stop pedal, the car will slow down and will reach 0 km/h. After that, no matter how long will you press the pedal, it will still be 0 km/h, and will never go to -10 km/h

That is why I have a question. Has anyone ever ripped an atom by the absolute vacuum?
