Apparently zinc potentiates the AMPA receptor. This is the holy grail of cognition for many, so might not low dose zinc be a start? I have read anecdotes that Zinc has other effects (NMDA antagonism and possible motivation blunting) that may make it inappropriate at higher doses, but especially given that we're all generally exposed to excess copper, wouldn't zinc be an essential starting nootropic?

And if carnosine is largely anti-aging, and most problems seem to originate in the gut... is Zinc Carnosine the form to use?
