As mentioned earlier, I've been thinking about the food prep side of things.

 

Four aspects come to mind:

  1. Basic ingredients: food and nutrients
  2. Moisture content
  3. Compatibility with the pelletizer machine
  4. How palatable the result is for the mice

Coming up with a mix that forms good pellets is one thing. However, an equally important issue is whether the mice will be willing to eat the result -- and to confirm that, one would need actual mice (which I don't have).

 

I think you could approach it something like this:

  • Start with a basic mouse food like the one from Oxbow (which is already in pelletized form): https://amzn.to/2GWNbDA
  • Make sure the mice are happy with the out-of-the-bag food.
  • Put the food in a good blender and mix with just enough water to develop a paste that's compatible with the pelletizer. Be careful not to overheat the mix in the blender.
  • Run a small batch through the pelletizer, let it dry/cure (overnight?) and make sure the mice are still willing to eat the result.
  • Measure and add supplements to the mix in the blender (proportional by weight), again being careful not to overheat. Adjust moisture content if needed.
  • Repeat the pelletizer/dry/cure process.
  • Test again with the mice.
  • Store the blenderized and pelletized food in the refrig.

It may take a few iterations to perfect, but shouldn't be too bad. Should get the process nailed down with a few test mice, before the full numbers arrive.

 

Control mice should have everything the same, including blenderizing and pelletizing -- just not the added supplements.

Hi Everyone, and welcome to the end of Week 3.


I am happy to report that we have installed two inline duct boosters. We will be performing the initial positive air pressure tests early next week.

We are now also protected against outages with standby generator power.

I will provide some pictures of the installation shortly.

Welcome to the beginning of week 8.

 

Here's a quick update on our recent progress.

 

1. Been experimenting with the pelletizing process. I'm starting to get the hang of how this works.

 

2. Inline HEPA filters have now arrived. Please see attached pic.

I would prefer to use both NR and NMN  (with a larger sample size).    We can also go with multiple experimental groups at one time.

I would also prefer to optimize feeding with some type of automation. Would you happen to have any suggestions?
Can  all of these substances to be incorporated into the feed?

I was wondering if you are interested in running this experiment with your mice:

 

 1 - Fasting

 2 - Thymus Regeneration with Growth Hormone, DHEA and Metformin

   2.1 - NR, NMN, glutathione, among other drugs/supplements.

 

1.- Fasting would kill old cells and leave the strongest (younger) alive.

2.- After fasting, growth Hormone stimulate the proliferation of healthy tissue, organ regeneration, along with the regeneration of thymus, which is important for long lifespan. 

Metformin, DHEA, NR, NMN have anti-ageing effect, although I do know know what happen if they are combined after fasting.

 

Have you heard about an experiment with this mixture of ingredients?

Hello, I was not reading here but it looks like you are doing what I am trying to do, in a much better way

I am raising half a hounder mice at home and would like to raise much more - perhaps we can collaborate as the more animals we have together the more synergies we can have in terns of overall number of things to test vs number of animals.

Are there other persons here having mice at home or desiring to how many mice at home ? If we create a community we can perhaps really start impacting longevity
