I find it surprising that people talk as if fasting was a new thing. It's been used as a health promoting tool by many cultures throughout history, and talked about by some of the greatest thinkers. Today there are many doctors studying fasting and finding many benefits.

In January, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey tweeted that he had "been playing with fasting for some time" and does "a 22 hour fast daily (dinner only), and recently did a 3 day water fast."

This revelation prompted Guardian journalist Arwa Mahdawi to remark that these "extreme fasts," which have become increasingly common among Silicon Valley's tech bros and entrepreneurs, are in fact nothing more than re-branding of eating disorders. But now, instead of women trying to get thin, it's men who are just "optimizing" their bodies.

Hahaha! Three day fast is now "extreme"? Okay.

I mean we live in an obese world that is getting more obese everyday. The average person has no clue what a proper relationship to food should be.

"Extreme Fasts". Lol.

Our mainstream media sources are very poor/unreliable nowadays. They don't even know history. The real eating disorder is reflected in the sky-rocketing obesity epidemic in the U.S. and Canada.

Yes exactly. There is a huge difference in the two. Eating disorders are often accompanied by body dysmophia. I would assume that when someone is fasting for health and longevity purposes they are eating a healthy diet and adequate amounts when not fasting. The whole article is just terrible. Most people have no clue what they're eating or how close they are to meeting daily requirements of essential vitamins and minerals. Tracking these parameters shouldn't be considered abnormal, but I'm not surprised that it is perceived this way in today's society.

In some ways it's like we're still stuck in the mindset of 2005. I agree with Justin, the mainstream media is not a good source of information if you're interested in health and longevity, although there are some exceptions of course.
