Hey Everyone:

I will be at RAADfest 2019 in Las Vegas. I intend to provide the LongeCity community with content and updates from this conference/festival similar to last year. If there is some content you would like to see or some questions you would like to ask of conference attendees or presenters, let me know.

In addition, I would like to meet with other LongeCity members if possible. Please post in this thread and let me know if you will be there. Perhaps we can have a LongeCity get-together, coffee, lunch, etc...

Like last year, it is easy to meet the many enthusiasts at RAADfest and an interesting mix of people as well. I just spoke with one of the programmers who works with the bitcoin ATMs.

Questions:

1. Is C60evoo explored as a geroprotector?

2. Why have they not yet tested the Baati protocol in several independent laboratories? More than 8 years have passed since the publication of such a breakthrough study.

2. Why have they not yet tested the Baati protocol in several independent laboratories? More than 8 years have passed since the publication of such a breakthrough study.

I have asked around about this at times in the past year and mentioned it in the forum here (why no new research?). I have not been able to find out as of yet. Ichor is about our only hope for some results on this front. They are supposed to be coming out with a paper about C60 soon.

My feeling is that the molecule and it's possible methods of action are too misunderstood or mysterious for any company or lab to pour a lot of money into research. Most labs and companies are focusing on more well-known rejuvenation therapies that have a long history of research in human and animal models.

Opening night was similar to last events. It was motivational to start and then delved into some of the most recent interventions that are available right now.

RAADfest is a different type of conference in that it is crafted for a mix of people. The organizers are trying to inspire a "movement" that will help move more of society toward a focus on rejuvenation and super longevity. Particularly noticeable is the age of most of the attendees. I would say well over 50% of the attendees are over 50, probably more like 70 or 80%. People are here to connect and find out all of the options for living longer. They are not just going down the "sickcare" route and accepting old age maladies. Very nice to see.

James and Bernadine gave the first motivational speech of the night.

One person (and group) that is really pushing new therapies and therapeutics forward is Bill Faloon, LEF, and agereversal.net

If you want to see the slides from Bill's presentation, it is up on the age-reversal.net right now.

Bill was promoting what a lot of LongeCity forum members know already - using senolytics Dasatinib+Quercetin, rapamycin, metformin, NAD boosters, etc...

He also made a big announcement about recruiting people into a new study "Vitality in Aging". People at the conference will be able to sign up right now for this two track study - a longitudinal study and an "interventions" study. The longitudinal part will measure biomarkers. The interventions part will test before-and-after health using current protocols of senolytics, NAD boosters, and what-not. I am unsure when and if other people, outside of the conference, will be able to sign up for the study. There will probably be an announcement on the age-reversal.net website at some point.

One interesting point the Bill brought up is how the obesity epidemic is reversing gains in the number of new centenarians. It is a shame that so many in the general public do not take care of their health, then end up on the expensive, big-pharma, sickcare track.

The "RAADcity" part of the conference is vendors, clinics, doctors, plying their wares. It is an interesting mix of cutting edge and speculative (mostly unproven) treatments and products.

Here is one interesting vendor, which I thought was a unique hack to make exercise/workouts more time-efficient. Perl-tech.

It is supposed to work by constricting the blood flow to a part of the body that is being worked-out (exercised). The lower oxygen environment is supposed to quickly increase lactic acid build-up which stimulates muscle recovery processes. Once the constriction is released the recovery process is then supposed to spread to other parts of the body. Even if it works, it is probably not as comprehensive as regular exercise, but I thought it was interesting none-the-less.

Always nice to speak with Rudi Hoffman. He gives a brief synopsis on the logic and affordability of cryonics.

Thank you for your review. Please ask questions:

1. Is there any evidence of what happens to the GrimAge epigenetic clock when taking Nad + boosters? Is their inversion happening?

2. If mice accept NAD + boosters, then why do they end up dying? What is the cause of death in these mice?

Good questions. I will see if I can get some answers from some of the NAD specialists at the conference.

For #2, I suspect the mice die from causes unrelated to the NAD+ boosters, or many are possibly sacrificed at the end of the experiment.

Since you brought up this question, I will share an interview with Dr. Nichola Conlon who founded the company Nuchido. Instead of focusing on the precursors, they used a systems pharmacology approach to identify compounds that could rescue or re-invigorate the NAD+ salvage/recycling pathways that fail in older cells.

With their cocktail, they were able to raise cellular NAD+ by 70%, almost as much as NR or NMN (which raised cellular NAD+ by 90% in their test subjects). So their product raises cellular NAD+ WITHOUT precursors. When they added a precursor (NAM) with their cocktail, cellular NAD+ went up by 862%. Their product will be on the market soon.

The interview with the founder is on the podcast page now.

Aubrey DeGrey presented today and explained how the SENS theory has stood the test of time. People have argued that the are many more types of damage and that the damage might be too complex to figure out how it accelerates aging. Aubrey argued that since all of the "new" types of damage fit well into the old 7 categories that it is not all that complex. He highlighted the new Mitomouse initiative (look to the upper right hand side of your screen to read more an donate), and new spin-offs (biotech start-ups) from the SRF. As of now, the future looks bright for the SENS strategies.

So the Nuchido NAD+ booster has 250 mg of nicotinamide. Is that a lot? Pictures show the ingredients. Nothing too out -of-the-ordinary. One proprietary "botanical blend". I get the feeling I just bought an expensive bottle of niacin.

It is important for how long the effect of increasing the level by 70% will remain.

NR on the first day increases the level of NAD+ by 220%, but with each day of admission, this level is less and less.

The manufacturer says what will be the level of NAD+ for long-term consumption (at least 2 months)?

Ray Kurzweil appeared by teleconference. He looked a little younger than last year, for whatever that is worth. His presentation highlighted recent progress in computational efficiency and growth in artificial intelligence capability. His optimism for continued progress toward super-intelligence has not waned.

Even though a lot of his predictions for the end of 2019 are probably going to come up a little short, it is mainly because breakthroughs in computing and virtual reality have not gained wide distribution in society. At the bleeding edge, many things are accelerating.

During his presentation he noted that the best AI computing infrastructure now has the computational capability of a human brain.

He touted the success of AI (neural nets) in medicine highlighting how the AlphaGo Zero architecture at Google trained on radiology charts to detect cancer and became better than human experts in "just a few days". He displayed a chart with computational capabilities of neural nets over the last few years and claimed that progress in this field is more than exponential. For medical applications, he said that there will be more advances soon, because the FDA is now accepting results of biological simulation, in order to move forward with trails and approvals (for vaccines).

His latest book "The Singularity is Nearer" is due out next year.

The audience questioned him about the threat of advanced AI or super intelligence. His main criticism of the "terminator" scenario, was that any AI will always be an extension of human brains and thus we don't have to worry, or something along that line. His answer didn't assuage my worries.

There are 2 C60 vendors at the RAADfest. I talked to people from this one (Greska's) and they vaguely mentioned that there is an ongoing study at the University of Denver - relating to health. They also had toxicity of their product tested at the University of Denver.

I guess it’s too mean or impolite to ask Ray Kurzweil straight up how he’s evidently cured male pattern hair loss? A few years ago he looked like he was near bald. Now?

If he he still works for Google (“...it’s my first job...” Kurzweil has said) I wonder if, with the Google billions or trillions and their mysterious CALICO, are RK and Cynthia Kenyon and crew any closer to anything yet — how about, eg, RK’s youthiness — or are we still in the painfully persistent stage tricks and deception phase? You’d think with Ray Kurzweil’s hair evidence, in combo with his job and the Google billions, they’d reveal one step forward?

How at such a conference do you distinguish between fraud, deception, and hype, and any actionable methods to slow, stop, and reverse human aging?

I spoke to a couple other people involved in systems pharmacology and they said there might be something to Nuchido's claims.

Representatives from ChromaDex are at RAADfest. I asked them about lifespan extension. They were unaware of any such studies.

I ran into Abelard Lindsay (Justin Sher) at RAADfest. Believe it or not, he has survived his years of self-experimentation quite well. In this podcast, he talks about recent supplements and self-experimentation.

You are doing a good job: informing people about things that they don’t even think about.

This may produce results after a short time.

In addition, Kurzweil made the very optimistic statement that "any problem" can be solved by advanced neural nets right now - within just a few days. I would say instead that advanced computational capabilities can give us "possible solutions" to the world's problems (such as specific diseases) in a few days, but that things still need to be tested in the real world.

Dr. Orn Adalsteisson gave a presentation about cancer prevention and treatment.

He helped found the ISCA and is working on new cancer therapies, including Intratumoral Immunotherapy (which has been effective in the first few recipients - curing lung cancer), and Photodynamic Immunotherapy (no success stories yet because testing has just begun).

I spoke with another doctor who does cancer research. He claimed that immunotherapy has been very effective thus far (for lymphomas) however, it has not moved into the mainstream because many of the therapies have to be tailored specifically to each individual, which is costly. One particular treatment he mentioned (which escapes me now) cost $500,000 per year.

The people behind qalytude are at RAADfest. They are developing a network of doctors who are sympathetic toward treating aging as a disease and are motivated to get supplements and pharmaceuticals into the hands of bio-hackers.

Impressively, the project/business is entirely self-funded thus far.
