I've been going through Wikipedia hoping to find a sedating antihistamine without negative effects on cognition and memory. Unfortunately there are many incomplete articles. Any suggestions or experiences?

You have for all intents and purposes described hydroxyzine (Atarax/Vistaril),
Hydroxyzine has a low affinity for muscarinic acetylcholine receptors and is noted to cause minimal effect on memory and cognition compared to other antihistamines but will cause somnolence. It is prescribed as a sleep aid and anxiolytic.
Wikipedia - Hydroxyzine
I'm unsure of how quickly tolerance will build with daily use but I would be surprised if it didn't to some extent.
