Across the world the SARS-COV2 coronavirus and the COVID-19 disease it causes has impacted on healthcare systems, society and economies.  Obviously, the topic is discussed at LongeCity.... because LongeCity is a good place to discuss it:

  • our mission is to conquer the blight of involuntary death, and the potential and actual death toll of the virus are a grave concern.
  • ageing plays an important part - if everyone had the robust immune defences of a young person, a vaccine could be much less urgent. What stronger case could there be for LongeCity’s argument that investment in aging research can have a massive beneficial impact?
  • the underlying science is still being explored and yet important policy decisions have to be made. LongeCity has always been a forum for critical, but adamantly science-led discussions of health policy;

LongeCitizens may be discussing the events from different perspectives:

UPDATE: due to community feedback and the number of new threads all COVID posts are now to be placed in this dedicated sub-forum.

Please do NOT derail threads discussing specific aspects of the relevant science, epidemiology or policy!

The above links point to the thematic subforums where these topics are best placed. You can find also find and link threads across the entire boards by using the keyword system (eg for --> 'coronavirus')

Please take a moment and consider before posting or opening a new thread whether you have found the right place. Nobody benefits from discussions that spiral off-topic constantly.  Innocent mistakes and detours may happen but people and posts will be subject to moderation if they are persistently out of place.

WARNING: LongeCity prides itself on high-quality scientific discussions. Still, as in any corner of the internet, we attract our share of uncivilised debaters and conspiracy theorists. LongeCity has usually a greater patience for ‘alternative’ views than some other places, relying on the social comments system in lieu of censorship. This has cost us dearly in recent years -- were ‘punished’ by some search engines as a place offering at times unreliable health information. But life extension science itself has previously been dismissed as ‘fringe’ and LongeCity does not want to risk blindness to new ideas by overzealous censorship. In this spirit we have  tolerated some frankly fanciful discussions about COVID-19. We will continue to maintain an open mind and moderation policy in this regard -- but what we cannot condone is scientific misinformation, ad-hominem or hyperbolic statements, or idle speculation unsupported by evidence. This is a last and final warning in those directions.

Stay informed and stay healthy!

@ALL: Please STOP making discussions personal!

You should assume that everyone posting on LongeCity is concerned about saving and preserving lives and is advancing arguments in good faith - even if you think them misguided.

If you cannot convince someone of your position, it is not your fault nor does this make the other a bad person. Arguments – and the whole situation regarding COVID – can be emotive, but please don’t bring negative emotions to LongeCity.

We favour a ‘light touch’ moderation style here. But if things don’t settle down we will have to adopt a zero tolerance policy for this forum section which will mean bans all around.

RE NEW threads

I am reminded to point out: starting a new thread in this sub-forum 'forces' you to apply the 'coronavirus' tag  and no other tag upon entry.

However, as elsewhere on LongeCity,  the thread-starter and any Member can apply additional tags AFTER the thread has been posted by using the 'Edit tags' button.

You are encouraged to do so, but please don't misuse.

Also: in the last few weeks we have closed two of the largest topics in this sub-forum on "alternative views" and "protective supplements".

Closing these topics does not mean discussions of these themes are prohibited, only that new threads should be more focused on more specific items under these broad headings.
