Trying to help a coworker. He recently took a blood test and his lipids were THROUGH the roof, sudden onset. His triglycerides were over 500! His test shows he is NOT diabetic. LDL also went up over 40 points. HDL is minimum for healthy which his tests always showed.

Time between tests was 1 year.

Only drug he's on is atenolol for subclinical < 100 heart rate started 2 years ago.

Also previous tests were spot on healthy for this guy's lipids.

He did say that prior to the test he fasted approx. 8 hours and an hour or so before the test he took a handful of supplements that he doesn't recall taking before a fasted blood test. He may have had a cup of tea with stevia (no calorie natural sweetener).

I am stumped.

He hasn't changed his diet.

For the previous 4 months he hasn't exercised because of the gym closures.

Anyone?

I'd do a re-test before getting my knickers in a twist.  Do it water fasted, no supplements.

Dave Feldman has shown that fasting for 8 hours before a blood test is not long enough.  Triglyceride Carryover - A Possible Game Changer

Better he retake the test without muddying up the results with that witch's brew. Fasted for 12h without anything but water like most people do.

When my brother worked for a blood testing lab, an employee had a triglyceride level over 500. They found it was caused by that person drinking soft drinks all day everyday.

EEP, can confirm...3-4 grams of omega + vit E will help.
