If nothing else, the COVID-19 pandemic has once again revealed the ineffectiveness of PCR testing. It is expensive, slow, and unreliable.
I know of a company - Cascade Biosystems - (in which I have no financial interest...I just know the founders) that has developed a much better DNA testing platform. Cheaper, faster, more specific, more reliable, portable, etc... They can do any type of testing for pathogens in plants, animals, humans, food, etc.. Anywhere PCR is used, it could easily be replaced by RCEA testing from Cascade Biosystems.

As is often the case when a disruptive new product/service enters the marketplace, it often languishes under the weight of "established practices". Cascade is trying hard to break through with their new DNA diagnostics, but they are having a tough time raising enough money for regulatory approval. They are open to outside investment or licensing/selling their patent portfolio.
