Please take a listen to this video by Chris Masterjohn For those who don't know him, he is an extraordinarily dedicated nutritionist who delves extremely deeply into physiology to answer even the most trivial of questions.

In the video you can go to 9:40 (though absolutely worth listening to all of it) where he answers a basic question: "Why do so many people have autoimmune hypothyroidism? Why does the body attack the thyroid do often?" And the answer is that making thyroid is a very dirty process, which results in a tremendous amount of dangerous byproducts such as peroxide and superoxide.

The above is new knowledge for me and could explain why most people above a certain age have benign cancer in their thyroid gland. After all, it is a dirty process that will cause DNA damage over a longer period of time. Since synthetic thyroid hormone is readily available and shown to be safe for long term use, could it make sense to simply use exogenous, synthetic thyroid hormone and shut of endogenous thyroid hormone production? That way, we'd get rid of this dirty process???
