Great advice. We share the same ideas that why I'm so interested in your regimine. I think people jump to quickly to use less studied supplements especially since they haven't tried all the safe common ones.
Thanks for the detailed post.

What I did was looked in Pubmed to find if PLCAR would provide similar effects to the Ames studies with ALCAR. I concluded it would. One of the main differences was that PLCAR affected your muscles more, and ALCAR affected the brain more.
I used PLCAR when doing physical labor. When I changed my nootropic stack, I switched back to ALCAR to get more of a brain effect.

Was there any reason you decided not to add Siberian ginseng? Just curious - I've been reading studies and it also looks like a good choice also.
I've decided against taking true Ginsengs (Asian and American) since they are estrogenic.

I have yet to figure out what to do with the midday adaptogen I take, so it is very likely that I will try it out. I like the effects of ashwagandha and maca the most so far.

Looks like, the amount of Magnesium in the ortho core is only 50% (plus it also contains magnesium oxide which is absorbed poorly). I would add magnesium citrate to fulfill the minimum RDA ( 400 mg of Mg Citrate would do).
I get more than RDA through diet alone. What do you think the optimal amount is?

Any specific reason why you dropped the rhodiola?
Ha, just edited that today. I am going to just go with the maca and ashwagandha for a while, and see how that treats me. No reason in particular. If any, it is due to redundancy.

and when your done please provide an explanation for including IP6 in your regime apart from it being cheap. I haven't seen too many studies that don't involve chickens.

we could/should basically drill each other in this fashion. It's a good way to brush up on your regime.

Yes, drill me!

Haha, yes, many of the studies done with IP6 are with animals (mice/rats) or human cell lines in-vitro or transplanted. The human studies are more about absorbtion and safety. The best summary of research, that is freely available, is

There is a similar updated report that was submitted in 2006.
I am using it for its protection from colon cancer (runs in family), its chelating abilities, and for prevention of calcification of the heart, kidney, etc.
Edit: I am looking for a source for the potassium salt version. If you know of one, shout it out!

It would be good to see a side by side meta analysis of the research for both rhodiola and maca.
Hey ..... pop quiz hot shot! what research, of late, validates your choice to go with/stay with maca.
This would depend what results you are looking for ...
For health properties, it would be better to compare ashwagandha to rhodiola. I think they are fairly similar in this respect, but I get a better boost in quality of life from ashwagandha. One good thing about ashwagandha, for me, is that it is not stimulating when I am not getting enough sleep (damn school). This keeps it from masking how tired or wiped out I am.
Edit: Although, Ill throw a bone out there on maca 17333395 even though I know you were looking for human studies.

do you get your maca from iherb by any chance?
nah, it has been from 'The Root of the matter', which can be found via google...I believe mitkat referred me. I have not had any complaints, but I have also not tried any other maca besides theirs.

You have a wonderful regime. Keep in mind that many of the Austin area Imminst member's would be interested in bulk buying--if you ever want to have others go in on LEF products for example to get a lower all around price.
Hmmm, not sure if there is much that I use that would need to be bulk bought. I think maybe the AOR ortho-core or Na-Rala would save money in bulk. We can talk about it a bit next meet-up.

Would you change anything if price was not a factor? Increase the dosages or add anything?
Not that I can think of.
With an inflow of extra money, I would probably spend it on sports leagues/training and better food.

I decided to slim down my regimen a bit over the last few months to be mainly nutrition and preventative supps. The most recently cut were astaxanthin and adaptogens. I may add another adaptogen back in but we will see.
I definitely will add in some more things as I get older.
