I'm 60 in a few months, needed to lose some belly fat. I tried a high protein diet. For 2 months I ate only meat, seafood, eggs, cheese, beer. Why beer? it makes you feel satisfied I took a sauna 3 times/week. I started getting pain in my big toe, and fingers were stiff. I presumed it was gout (build up of uric acid crystals in the joints).
I checked on purines in food. I was boiling seafood and shellfish, prawn heads to make a soup full of collagen. I discovered that the the worst 3 things for gout are seafood, beer and sauna. I went on vacation to Marrakech, Morocco, couldnt find a beer anywhere, no seafood in the desert, and my gout disappeared.
I've been drinking beer for over 20 years but discovered that it contains a lot of purines, but also hopein (8-prenylnaringenin) very estrogenic in men.
So my nectar of the gods has to go. I'm now drinking cider (low purines, no hops) not over the top, just enough for relaxation and social drinking. I've been on resveratrol for over 10 years, so maybe that has a connection with gout.
