why is it so hard to find a lutein/zeaxanthin supplement that is 10mg:2mg?

This is the proper ratio (apparently).

 

I want one that is 10 and 2 after reading a document about a woman who ate healthy and took 20/4 and got crystalline maculopathy (story).

 

I have tried 4 times to add the link to the term "story" up there but it doesn't work.  https://www.ncbi.nlm...les/PMC5906391/

 

But they're all 20/4, or 25/5, or some other weird proportion (10/.5).

 

More stuff I'm asking:

 

What is the difference between MESO zeaxanthin and RR zeaxanthin? Like this:

Why do some products have lots of lutein and little zeaxanthin, like 20mg lutein and 839mcg zeaxanthin?

 

Is there a difference between the branded luteins?  Like Lutemax?  Or Floraglo?

Easy solution. Take every second day. Fat solubles are longer retained in the blood. Also heard there is some competition between Xanthophylls. So for example, Astaxanthin every second day.

Since serum levels decreased to almost normal without supplemental, The dietary contribution wasn't that big. Seemed to be reversible.

 

Would however never be disturbed by a single anecdotal adverse effect. There are simply too many irregularities in biochemical individuality, medical history (also not recorded), toxic exposures, and finally weird genetic abnormalities, for such to be happening in one individual only.

 

How was I surprised that ME/CFS are crashing on days without end due to simple sound, light or touch sensitivities. There is probably no nutritional molecule against ME/CFS reacted not with severe adverse reaction in at least one of them. But such severe sensitivity still does not ably to the majority of the population.

 

I took in average 18.6 mg/d of Xanthophylls (Luthein, Zeaxanthins and Astaxanthin) for the last 15 years. The only surprising side-benefit was that I can't get sun-burned anymore, despite using no sun-protection. The almost 3 times higher levels in the skin found in this study to be possible with such supplementation, would explain.

I eat smoothies every day.  Mostly with fruit, but still.

 

Is there fish oil that has lutein?

I was considering if you could take it every other day.  Certain minerals and stuff will not allow that.  But there aren't even really any 10mg ones.

Swanson has 10 mg/per capsule lutein.

That is definitely correct, too!  I think I ignored it because it was just "lutein" and not one of the optilut or lutemax, nor either of the others.  I was unsure about the regular "lutein."

 

No 2mg zeaxanthin, still.

I'll probably just get a 20/4.

 

Then there's "Eyes Alive" by Swanson of which one pill has 10 and 2, and 2 astaxanthin, and bilberry, but it's very expensive ($55 for 120 capsules).  I remember when people were discussing astaxanthin a couple years ago.  Did it pan out?

You've articulated the exact problem I've been running into, for the exact same reasons.

 

I don't want to risk a daily 20/4 supplement because of that study.

 

And I cannot find a decent 10/2 one.   

 

I've resorted to taking a 20/4 one (Sports Research) every other day.

 

I also emailed them and asked them to consider creating a 10/2 version of their supplement and linked them to that study.

 

I bet if you and a couple others emailed them and asked the same thing, they might consider it.

 

They are one of the few brands that has a 6mg option of Astaxanthin in addition to the more popular 12mg you see everywhere, so they might be our best bet for a 10/2 Lutein and Zeaxanthin.

Is Sports Research legit?

 

There are some gummy products with 10/2.  They are 20/4 but they're 2 gummies.

 

According to Google there is 44mg of lutein in a cup of cooked kale.  So maybe 20mg isn't THAT much?
