So...

According to this (long) post, all vitamin D (except from the sun) is synthetic, thus bad for you, as are all the other ingredients in the pills.

The reason for this is that vitamin D is used in rat poison.  I immediately do not believe that just because it's used in rat poison means it's harmful for humans.

According to this post, vitamin D tests measure the synthetic form of D.

According to this post, there is no evidence of a real form of vitamin D existing.

According to this post, there was no vitamin D deficiency concern until big pharma invented osteoporosis drugs, then they initiated telling everyone that their vitamin D was low, recommending they take it, and then selling them osteoporosis drugs when it caused this.

I'm not saying any of this is true.  But sometimes when I read a conspiracy theory I like to hear why it's not true.

Why dependent on other opinions? Use logic and everyday experiences to verify.

For example: The most common vitamin D test, is testing for the storage form of vitamin D3. It will be higher with supplementation, or solely more sunshine exposure.

An n=1 observation. My 8 yo daughter had two bright white front teeth, but the two to either side were yellow. No amount of brushing had any beneficial effect. Within 2 days of arriving on our summer holiday in the Canary Islands, her yellow teeth become bright white. So, sun, when you spend most of your life on a cloudy island (Britain) is clearly beneficial. I don't know whether the supplemental form could be harmful, but it appears to ward off colds during the winter and spring months. Certainly many supplements, not just vitamin D, could contain other harmful contaminant substances, but that is another matter.
