Hello everyone,
A couple other resveratrol users and I have come across a company advertising 98% and 99% trans-resveratrol extract powder:
Changsha Organic Herb, Incorporated, based in Hunan, China. Website: http://www.organic-herb.com.
As it stands, the current (as of 4/30/07) quoted cost of 98% and 99% trans-resveratrol is $680 and $800 U.S. Dollars respectively, per kilogram- extremely inexpensive (68 and 80 cents per gram). Orders for quantities below one kilogram are also allowed, but the price is slightly higher. This eliminates the need for a bulk purchase.
Thanks.
This is lower than the most recent bulk price I have been able to get from Kingherbs (www.kingherbs.com); they have a COA and analysis on their website. (I provided them the AACL test on their site.) Their product is of good quality, and tests for Mercury, Lead, Cadmium and Arsenic were below the detectable limits of the test. I am interested in following how the Changsha product compares.
My contact at Kingherbs tells me there are only two large producers of resveratrol in China, many smaller ones have tried, unsuccessfully, to get a purity of 98%. Also there is a limited supply of raw material (Polygonum cuspidatum root) warehoused in China. There will be no more until the August harvest. Until then the price keeps rising. He has said that if Changsha Organic Herb is selling at this price, either: they boutht 98% at a low price in December, before the price went up, or they bought roots before the price went up, and so can make it more cheaply than Kingherbs' factory.
Enrolling in Paul Wakfer's synthetic resveratrol group purchase may be a more certain way of obtaining high quality resveratrol, albeit at a considerably higher price.
In any case, the price of bulk resveratrol in China will not come down until August, and may rise again if the press picks up on another Sinclair paper. I think Nature may publish his paper on the healthy mice in June; stock up.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am negotiating with Kingherbs to be their North American sales representative. They can source a good many other herbs and supplements in bulk (CoQ10, lipoic acid, carrot oil, rosemary extracts.) I'm not seeking to sell these retail, so I don't think this qualifies as advertising.

What makes you think that Sinclair might have the paper on the healthy mice available in June?

It seems that problems associated with rsv overdoses are starting to appear. Now it's tingling and numbness in the peripherals. I noticed over stimulation, difficulty sleeping and over aggressiveness myself. It only took me around 70mg per day to notice those effects. Some people may need a lot more before running into problems. Be careful with this stuff. More is not always better.
Since I use small amounts there would be no reason to order huge quantities of 98 or 99%. Emodin has beneficial effects and I only get a little on the 50% stuff. I've quit taking it altogether since about 4 days ago. I like the way I'm tapering off. I miss the "up" feeling but it's a relief and I'm catching up on sleep. I will get back to it probably end of the week.
"The dose makes the Poison" - Paracelsus
I felt I was becoming hyper at 1.8 mg / day, and do not have this problem since dropping back to 1.2 mg /day. (I weigh 12 stone or 78 kilos.)
Interestingly I had a similar problem with multivitamin supplements, such as LEF mix, or Twin Lab two a day. B50 mixes produced the same effect: mild paranoia, anger, depression. I cannot take a supplement with more than the RDA of certain B vitamins, specifically B1 and/or B2. Even Benfotiamine causes this mood disturbance.
So maybe it's not just the resveratrol, but something else you take that the resveratrol agonizes?

maxwatt,
What makes you think that Sinclair might have the paper on the healthy mice available in June?
Rumor and innuendo. He was quoted as saying in November they also had a group of healthy mice (non-obese) and controls along with the fat ones, but it would be about another six months before the paper was ready.

Sounds great, right? Well good luck trying to actually get any. Ive sent the company several emails over the last two weeks and have had no response. The other forum member who originally purchased their material then wrote to them on my behalf and they sent me a product catalog, but never got back in touch again. I even indicated that I would be posting my analysis on a popular web site and they could expect this might give them some business, and still they blew me off. Even if they contact me now I probably won't do business with them. In fact, I'm going to send them a copy of this posting.
Unless there was some weird chinese government firewall problem involved, these guys aren't even professional enough to answer their email when it's decidedly in their best interest.

Hi Proteomist, a few weeks ago Chris told me about your offer to personally test his order from Organic Herb with your equipment, and I thought that it was very kind of you. I'm also thrilled to hear that the testing you did of the Changsha product showed only positive results. I speak with Changsha Organic Herb on a weekly if not daily basis without any issues and I'm shocked to hear that you believe the company has blown you off. Perhaps your e-mail might be going to spam or maybe you are writing e-mails that to a Chinese person do not seem to require a response? What e-mail address are you using? Either way, I can easily relay your message and let them know to contact you... Chris and I both believe the company seems to be reputable and trustworthy because we have both successfully received and consumed what appears to be a high quality resveratrol extract from the company. Even though you have tested the product with positive results, I believe most of us would like a professional laboratory assay and testing done on the Changsha product to be sure the product is indeed (in my case) 99% trans-resveratrol and free of contaminants and with this aim, the other Chris (tintinet), has made a post above hoping to find others interested in testing this extremely inexpensive very high quality resveratrol.

Well that's very good to hear. I was hoping there was an innocent explanation, but I tried sending email from both my normal academic email account and also from a Yahoo account, and got no response to either. Also, email to other Chinese companies has been answered, so I figured it was specific to Organic Herb.
Anyway, I was using sales@organic-herb.com, and I believe the text was pretty clear. I kept it simple in case of language issues, and directly asked for a price quote every time.
It would be great if this is just some technical issue, because as I said their product looks great, as does the price Chris paid. I'll PM you a message to relay; that would be really helpful.
If they're not getting my emails, at least they won't get the unhappy one I sent them.[thumb]
Thanks for your help!

Previously (weeks ago), I was intermittently taking over 2 grams/day without any adverse effects; today, even 100 mg seems to incite tingling...or perhaps, the SPN is entirely incidental to my t-resv. intake, or a hypersensitivity reaction. Unclear, at least to me, at this time.

I don't have tingling or anything like that, and I take 2 grams. I will say that in my personal experience, I think a large 2 gram dose in one shot will lower your alcohol tolerance if you drink afterwards. This is just my opinion at this time.
Just be safe and take it at least 2-3 hours before you go to that party.

CL capsule ingredients:
Reservatrol (from 200 mg of Knotweed extract) (Polygonum cuspidatum) (root) 100 mg
Grape Seed Extract (Providing flavonoid compounds-95 % total polyphenols equals to 47.5 mg) 50 mg *
Grape Skin Extract (25 % polyphenols equal to 6.25 mg including proanthocyanidins) 25 mg *
Pine Bark Extract (85 % biologically active flavonoids equal to 21 mg including proanthocyanidins) 25 mg
Others who have taken strictly highly pure forms of resveratrol have reported noticing no perceptible effects as well.

I switched from Country Life to a 98% pure product in powdered form recently and noticed a marked change, but not for the better. Basically, I feel like I did before I started taking Country Life at all, which is the only form of Rsv I've taken except a brief run on Longevinex back in December. My appetite, which had diminished greatly, went way up. My mood went down. The only improvement has been an easier time falling asleep. The change was pretty immediate. I wonder if the emodin might have been causing the earlier effects. I've consistently taken 200-300mg a day on both CL and the new product. I'm 115 lbs, female. I take no other supplements.

Last night at 11:30 pm my wife did 2 miles on the treadmil and did not eat after.
I built my dose up over the course of 3.5 years.
Started with 2 X 30 Mg caps/ day and slowly upped to near gram/day
doing 420 mg 98% and two 500 mg 50% caps/day
Plus I am finishing the end of some paradise herb, jarrow, source natural, and NSI RSV.
I did a quater mile last night.
My blood test results came up very well. The nurse told me my numbers were great.
I also endured a Thallium stress test and left after one hour and forty five min.
Typically the stress test is stressfull enough for one to stay out patient for 3 to 4 hours.
I am trying to help you figure it out, the neuropathy and weight gain, are they from lack of exercise?

RevGenetics, sells powder but we are not the cheapest when it comes to 1kg or more. We provide 100grams to small manufacturers.

It hasn't been a year yet. I believe you have been taking RSV for many years, can you provide us with your tests so that some of us have something to look forward to?
I am not sure a blood test will help all that much, but I had a complete cardiovascular checkup last time I went in to Baptist Hospital here in Miami, I figure on the anniversary I may be inclined to share some info. I'll have to discuss it with the wifey though.
thanks

bixbyte, do you have cholesterol and hormone levels as well? Just curious.
*********************************************
Hormones and cholesterol last done 2 years ago
My Hormones was within the low end of normal
and my cholesterol was very good.
Before RSV my cholesterol was too high and my family doctor was about to prescribe lipitor
but after taking RSV my chol dropped to the good range.
My nonbeliever wife saw my test results and jumped on the RSV bandwagon.
I even offered my family doctor a bottle of RSV, he laughed and told me no thanks he takes echianacea.
I find it ironic that my MD takes a known useless supplement echianacea.
Yes, I want a new chol test. My doctor, so far, has not ordered.
I might have to pay for the chol test out of my pocket.
Next MD visit is in June.
Anyone doing free Cholesterol tests?

Haven't had any bloodwork, but I just wanted to mention that I had my blood pressure tested recently and was surprised to find it was actually low. In the past (before taking Rsv) it has always tested as slightly high despite the fact that I'm young (23) and thin (5'5", 110-115lbs). I took Country Life for 4 months and about a week and a half ago switched to 98% pure powder. I take 200-300mgs daily. I'm very confident of the purity because the stuff was tested. My blood pressure was taken two days ago. I take no other supplements and for medication only Effexor as an antidepressant.
What were your actual BP numbers, both before and after?
