And older people tend to have more fat around their midsection. There´s a redistribution of fat with advancing age, I don´t think they know what happens to adipocytes in the face. Apoptosis maybe? Like muscle cells.

There´s a saying that as a woman gets older she has to choose between having a nice butt or a beautiful face. Too skinny means a gaunt older looking face. Though with all the new facial fillers women don´t have to choose, they can have both a tight bum and a full face (injected with hyaluronic acid and fat). Like Madonna, Demi Moore and Nicole Kidman.

Is that what they use instead of Botox? That sounds more appealing. Except that they would have to harvest the fat from another part
of your body....which must mean lypo....which is disgusting and leaves puckered looking skin.

Actually, the hyaluronic acid that Fredrik mentioned is usually derived from bacteria, or sometimes rooster crowns. So no need to harvest fat, which means no need for liposuction! Also, unlike collagen, no allergy tests are required either, as hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the skin. There are also a number of other (non-hyaluronic acid) fillers on the market that require no allergy testing or liposuction (such as calcium hydroxylapatite, PMMA, etc.). If you can find a very skilled physician, your result can be very natural-looking, especially since the variety of fillers (and their subtypes; for example hyaluronic acid comes in many different viscosities) provide a palette of different textures and degrees of firmness for different areas of the face and different types of wrinkles. The only problem is that very few physicians are yet that competent, as competence requires a certain degree of experience which most simply do not have given the relatively short amount that many of these fillers have been available. (Thankfully, there have been enough cases that if you do your research beforehand, you can avoid many of the worst mistakes, such as injecting a calcium hydroxylapatite product such as Radiesses to the lips, which has a high incidence of causing lumps.)

Not instead of botox, a complement to it. Botox is primarily used on the upper face (but that is changing, experienced doctors can use botox to change the shape of peoples chin, lift the neck some and reshape the nose a bit actually. All by targeting small muscles that helps to shape our faces) and fillers are used around the mouth where you want to be careful with botox or you´ll be drooling saliva for weeks when the good Dr happen to paralyze the wrong muscle.

But fillers are used in the eye area also. Botox has a more dramatic effect and can get rid of coarse lines in the forehead much better. But fillers treat the naso-labial folds nicely.

One thing that probably makes someone look oldder is the change form type III to type I collagen in the skin. This is probably what really stands out when you see someone looking much younger than their actual age. My skin is still probably mostly the Type III collagen as it's much like skin texture of a child still, rather than an adult which tends to look more rough and have a different texture to it.

Amazing. What do you mostly attribute that to? CRon? Genes?

Hopefully something like this is around by the time I really need dermal fillers:

Adipose-derived stem and progenitor cells as fillers in plastic and reconstructive surgery

Matt, I maintain that you look about 20. It's not any signs of aging, but the fact that your face is more developed than a teenage boy's in terms of bone structure. You also don't have the heavy coating of baby fat that most teenage boys do. There's a difference in the cheek area. But I think that's a good thing. It's more attractive for a guy to look your age.

I'm a college student, so I'm also very familiar with how people in the 18-22 set look, and I really would never guess he was a freshman. I don't know what twenty year olds you've seen, but all the ones I know have very pristine faces.

Just asked my 24-year-old boyfriend and he guessed 23. No lie.

Funny that because I've never actually had anyone recently think I was over 18 years of age. Actually not very long ago someone thought I was off to school with my bag I take to work, (backpack) and people leave school at 16 here. So whats going on??? Do we both live on different planets? You're not from hollywood by any chance are you? :|?

I should also say that my friend joe, and a few other friends who see me weekly also think I could still easily fit in well in high school even now, and do a few years there. Maybe your judgement is changed by your own environment. However, asking 'how old does this person look' is not the best way because people artifically raise the age because they know , or have some idea whats going on. that the person is older but looks younger. So they just put the age up.

That's amazing Matt.

Thanks. I still think that I can improve, I just need more time, probably another 12-18 months or so. I want to implement a brilliant skin care regimen for myself, that works for me and doesn't cause breakouts or anything. I was so hoping that something like juvess was going to work but I don't know whether it was a coincidence or something but I broke out in spots. It might have been a coincidence because I kept breaking out even 1-2 months after STOPPING using it.

I still have quite a few hyperpimgented 'fading' red marks left from acne I used to have, which when this is gone I think my results will be even better. My hope is maintain myself at this age for another 6 years. I look younger now than I did 5 years ago, I think it might be possible. But at some point (and no I don't think it has come yet as one person seems to be suggesting) I will obviously start to look more like an adult.

All I'm using right now is Aloe vera gel because of a positive experience I had back in my acne days, and I just make some green tea rub the tea bags on my face a few times a week. It makes the skin incredibly smooth and seems to stop red marks from spots if I do get the odd one. I initially got the idea here http://www.acne.org/.../207/page1.html . I use the aloe vera twice a day and totally avoid sun exposure. I use gentle exfoliating face wash once a day in the night because my skin is too sensitive to use in the morning before work. Though the aloe does ease the redness pretty quickly anyway. Just find it convenient this way. I really am considering trying out Juvess again, but right now is not the time.

Please post your new regimen when it becomes available.

I stopped getting acne when I switched to a plant-based diet and quit dairy like milk and whey. People compliment me on my skin. They say it changed from the last time they saw me. (before my anti-aging regimen) For skincare I use DermaE line for now.

Well I wouldn't classify it has acne because it's nowhere near as bad as it used to be. As for the whey protein, I find that I had noticed no difference when i resumed using it, if anything, and probably by coincidence (or does bLF do anything for acne?) my spots stopped appearing. I don't get them now and I am using 75g of whey protein per day to help heal any tendon issues left over from cipro. My idea was that higher IGF-1 might help repair connective tissue.

No i've never use sun screen. I think I should. Never used retinoid cream either.

I don't ever remember getting a bad sun burn in my life and erm, as just an experiment in the mid summer me and the sister just talked outside in the garden for an hour in the sun, even though she was already tanned and I'm white... I never burned yet she did. Figure that one out :) We were in the sun the exact same length of time, same area.

Though I'm sure I'd roast in africa or something... lol. Just where I live I seem to now have more protection against sun burn that PRE CR days.

Fresh vegetables and fruit every days, i have a bit of evrything exept meat a few and never ready made food or soda.
I tried to follow my logic: my grand mother is 94 so i think: what did she have at my age ?

Clean + scrub + moisturized evry days and afford sun

Sleeping, Exercising, walking,...

No stress as much as possible (exept at work do what you want..... :) ) No coffee (anyway i am in UK now and coffee is disgusting)

Think carpe diem

It would certainly complement your CR-regimen pretty well. You can simply implement most of fredrik's regimen it is pretty solid to say the least. If you start now in the future you may become the only 30 or 40-year-old who looks <20yo.

I live in a street and theres like a big area where lots of kids and teenagers play football and whatever. It's quite amazing to see that the neigbours and people I've seen grow up over the years. So basically when I was 18, they were around 10-12. Obviously they were just kids then... and looked like the average kid. Now 6 years later most of them look the same as as me and quite a few of them older. This is the same for family members of mine. All of the young cousins and whatever are just growing up and very clearly aging far faster than me despite being so many years younger.

Although I forgot to add. My sister has a BMI of 19 and she hasn't aged at all since she was 16 either, now shes 22. lol.

marqueemoon what monitor are you using? Interestingly I just got to lend my friends 17" LCD monitor and the images are in different proportion to my other monitor. The new monitor seems to be making it more stretched vertically even at native resolution, which seems to make a massive difference as I see the images side by side here on each monitor.

You're definitely a cool cat, marqueemoon, but you seem to be standing alone in your assessment of Mr. Lake's age.
I am certain that he would appear to be a teenager in real life.

I know that some agency scouts and various other types believe they have some more seeing eye, some harsher criteria for judgment, but you don't seem to be that type of obnoxiousness at all, and those people are rarely correct anyway, at least as far as certain aspects go, though they may occasionally be able to peg a look-of-the-moment.

Just curious. No ill anything intended!
Cheers. :)

If I remember correctly you said, maybe jokingly, though, that you want to be some kind of poster child for CR/life extension with your appearance? Then this is certainly the way to go.
The skin care forum is a great place thanks to fredrik, eva victoria and many other great posters and also because there are so many great interventions available that can help to improve one's skin, the big four being in my opinion sun avoidance, sunscreens, retinoids, antioxidants and there many other promising treatments too.

Well I'm not sure where I said that? But anyway, I would find it interesting to see if I could stay the same or near the same age until I'm 40, maybe then my late 20's by 50? I don't know if this is possible with CR + Skin Care. We know that a dramatically lowered calorie intake can slow down aging appearance, we know a healthy diet can do so too, and skin care on top of that will be any good? I'd love to get some sort of regimen, something not too expensive maybe in january. Also that photo I took above is 12 hours after I just recovered from mild flu with a temperature of 39.0 degrees Celcius. Probably not the best time to take a picture after there was a war going on inside my body lol. I did recover sooo fast though =/
