If it's a reputable person, I'm quite curious who it is Is he hiding behind a psuedoname because Imminst is a bit outrageous, from a PR standpoint? He'd get mocked if it was found out he was talking to a bunch of immortalists?

. That probably has a bit to do with it, and I am alright with that. Physical Immortality is not a widely accepted notion right now, but it does seem to be gaining momentum.

Mockery is of no concern. Not getting your important LE work funded because you hang out with the crazies is.

I totally sympathize with not wanting to make any career mistakes. Plus, researchers can help from the sidelines anyway. PR matters, but research results help too.

It's all babysteps anyway. I'd rather have quiet people helping than fewer people helping!

Cells from a 27-30 day old pig embyro and cells from 7-8 week old aborted human embryo have been
transplanted in a mouse and monkey without being rejected. So...my question for Mondey is: what
do you think would result if the stem cells from these first trimester embryos were extracted then
expanded and transfused ( in numbers uqual to the old stem cells) into an old pig and an old human?

Given the age-related decline of thymus mass (and loss of thymus function), I'd think it to be a good target for stem cell injection therapies. Doesn't it seem like an organ that should just be able to be grown in size? We'd have to worry about an increase in auto-immune associated diseases (especially older women).

To me, it just seems to be an obvious place to look at cell replacement thereapy.

One question that I ask fairly often. Is there anything the Immortality Institue or its members can do to help advance stem cell research? Maybe have a science section for researchers to share protocols? Or have a job/research posting forum?

Besides teratoma formation, what is the greatest drawback to stem cell therapy. What side effects have to be conquered before therapies become widespread.

I would like to ask about organ replacement technology. There have been a series of different results posted lately that support the idea that viable organ replacement technology is now on the horizon. I would be curious if Mondey is familiar with these reports, their methods and if he has a prediction of which methods will come into the mainstream first.

I suspect the ones focused on simpler tissues obviously (like the pancreatic cells) but the last two involving not only ASC in one patient but the ability to grow complex structures seems to hold considerable promise.

In the case of the ASC I refer to the Finish patient that had a replacement jaw bone grown in his abdomen from his own stem cells.

and in the other case I refer to the animal study that grew a functional mammalian heart on top of a lattice of connective tissue but was able to get the hearts to start beating on their own.

Also because there is a chance I will not be able to attend (the weather is hitting 60 today and I need to work outside) could you please also get him to weigh in on the politics of stem cells a little? Like an opinion on the Pope's latest comments and the importance of the differences in parties as to who will best fund and promote stem cell research going forward. There is little point in lamenting the lame ducks disastrous policies at this point anyway.

I know this is a bit of an old topic- but reading it I think there should be a way to make the ImmInst community to attract legitimate scientists and make it a place for legitimate scientists to talk-even if they have to use pseudonyms.

Lists of techniques, lists of papers, lists of websites, lists of contacts and people that could be interested in working in RLE and SENS etc.

I would be interested in such a resource personally and know others that might use it.

Would I have to get in touch with the other scientists on here somehow or would ImmInst organise this for us? I think the notion that this is a place for crazies is not an outlandish statement-my question to you is-what more can you do for the legitimate science community and how are you going to attract them to use ImmInst as a resource and community?
