Though not exactly the technology we're all desperately waiting for, clothing coated with these nano fibres to make them stain resistant and water repellent are not exactly wide spread, or are they? I've got my Nano shirt and Nano trousers... in 2004 I got them. However I've not seen the transition take place and big companies start using the tech in a wide range of products. I wonder if this is fear of 'nanotech' and a similar situation to things like asbestos.
You ask the average person if they ever heard of nanotech they still don't really know, ask them ever heard of the nano clothes and usually always no. Predictions were that we'd all have nano clothes by now.
The field of nanotech seems to be progressing really slowly from what I can see, apart from the computer chips industry. Are predictions for nanotech generally too optimistic
The clothing that I have right now that uses this Nano coating or whatever it is are pretty much 'work clothes' and not casual stuff that I 90% of the time wear. Plus I can't really find any UK retailers that sell them.
