Nice. I looked online myself the other day. The price of 200mg tabs is half what I pay for 100mg tabs on prescription. Grrr. I haven't checked whether australian customs will let it pass or not.OK, I was able to order Modafinil from two places online (airsealed and nubrain, the former have already sent the item), and if they wont get busted in customs - this makes what I currently pay for 100mg a day to be for ~250mg. When it arrives I will try 200mg. Today, however, I've only taken 50mg + 5mg of Ritalin, which was about enough for 3 hours. Later I took another 50mg of Modafinil + 10mg Ritalin and went to sleep, after which I've woken up naturally 2 hours later very alert. Even later I took 20mg Ritalin. The whole deal is 100mg Modafinil + 35mg Ritalin. This lasted me a whole day with 8 hours of sleep. I went to sleep three times (prior to two of which I've taken doses) and was able to be very productive (while awake, of course... not during sleep). This seems to work well, and more balanced than taking 60-80mg of Ritalin (throughout the day) which gave me stimulating "rushes".
Goal for when the Modafinil package arrives is to use 100mgX1 Modafinil without Ritalin. Will update soon.

Yesterday I've slept a lot, not sure how much, but basically between 10-12 hours. However, after being awake for 6 hours I started feeling extremely tired. This subsided after a while, and 4 hours after that I took 100mg Modafinil and 10mg Ritalin, and went to sleep. Woke up 2 hours later. Felt very alert (but had a terrible stomach ache, probably from the Ritalin), a feeling which consisted for about 10 hours. Then I went to sleep and woke up NATURALLY after 4 hours of sleep. The strange thing is that even if I wake up very alert, this feeling subsides after about 2-6 hours, after which I get sleepy again. Not this time. I'm up for 4 and still going strong. This seems like that weird Modafinil "after-effect" again.
Going to take another 100mg+10mg today.
Also - I would appreciate any references for Modafinil suppliers that ship discretely. I've decided to check for the best way to order it online (which would save me about 50-70% of the price I pay now), but my main issue is the stuff getting caught in customs. Thanks.

Getting back on the horse?
I'm back on, at least while I'm off the selegiline. I am taking 100mg on waking. Effects are promising so far.

I see that on this board there are different reasons for people using this drug. For those of you that don't really have an underlying problem, such as narcolepsy, I would recommend that you try 50 mg a day, and see how that works for you. Once you reach a level of good saturation, you will find that the mental clarity effects are always accessible, 24/7. I would say that this particular drug has made a distinct and beneficial change in my life.
Now the real question in my mind is for how long I can continue to use this drug. I can foresee using it indefinitely (literally for the rest of my life...or until something better comes along), but surely that can't be good!

I have been taking modafinil (in the form of Modiodal) for the last several months. I take 50 mg a day in the morning, and I find this to be the ideal dosage for me. When you take it long term, the long half life of the drug really starts to play an important role, thus after say a week on 50 mg you reach a state of constant effect. Sometimes I will stop for 2 or 3 days, just to give the body time to clean out, and for the first day or so there seems to be enough modafinil in the system to keep riding, and on the second day or so i start to feel the old fatigue come back into the mind. The effects of this drug are to me extremely subtle, but definitely noticeable. I have tried 100 mg, but i find that it is a bit too much, in terms of feeling like i am on something. At 50 mg, the only real effect is that my mental clarity and particularly mental energy are greatly improved. At work for instance, i notice that when i am not on it i become incredibly bored sometimes, and while on it i never get board... even the most mundane tasks can be stimulating, if only due to the fact that a concentrated mind is of itself a pleasant mental state.

Thanks for the input, Jake.
Regarding your optimal level being 50mg - that might make sense. I even thought about 50mg when trying to find out why paradoxically I feel better 10-16 hours after intake. One theory is that 100mg might be too much, and so near the half-life limit of the drug - when less is available - I might benefit from a lower circulating dose. Just a thought.
I also agree about the effect being subtle but noticeable. This will not make anyone smarter. It will, however, in many, increase concentration ability (what's wonderful about it is that, as you said, it makes concentrating more fun) and mind agility. While even this with mild improvement - it just might make a difference. Consider being 10% more productive. This doesn't sound like much... but it's 10% multiplied by how long it lasts. For instance, if you work 10 hours a day, it virtually gives you an extra hour.
In any case, I'm keeping a good balance with 100mg daily, plus 10-25mg Ritalin, when necessary. I want to keep at it for about two weeks (to see that this is not a coincidence, as my sleepiness is periodical), after which I'll try 150mg and 200mg (which would hopefully allow me to lose the Ritalin). Speaking of Ritalin - it does have its benefits over Modafinil. It's a short term booster (for me, at least, as I no longer take slow release types) which is good for some tasks. It's more poignant and strong, but leads to restlessness and fast decline.

The airsealed shipment (from India) has arrived. Discrete package, no customs check (ordered only 30 pills).
Now I think I'll try a 150mg dose, see where it gets me.
Will update.

I've been on 100mg a day for a week. This shit is stronger than I remember it! I think it gives me too much concentration.
I do recall realising that I needed to cycle with a period of about 3 days on and one off. I'll give that a shot and see how it works out. If that is too much I'll try 50mg doses instead.

Haha. I wish it last less than 10 hours. If I take 200mg at say 4:00 before an important social engagement, I don't expect to sleep before 4:00 in the morning without making a particular special effort to do so.OK, so now that I've overcome the financial constraints, I can afford 200mg per day. Took my first 200 today (about 5 hours ago, in fact). I'm awake and bright as day. I've worked for about 4 hours without even noticing. Usually I'm very tired this time of day (night, actually), but now I feel I can run a marathon. Question is - how long will this last. I'm not keeping my hopes up for 10 hours (which would make it a good once-daily dose). Will update soon.

Regarding the duration of the effect... after about 8 hours I began to feel sleepy. Strangely, It was kind of different than my usual sleepiness. I wasn't sleepy per-se, but my eyes were kind of "heavy". Should be mentioned that at that time I was awake for about 18 hours. I pushed another hour and went to sleep.

I know these feelings! I know my eyelids get heavy , raw, dry, rubbed, esp if i take out contacts. one can sleep under the influence of adra/moda, unlike caffiene

Indeed. But this is still a feeling I haven't felt before, even under Modafinil. My reasoning is that I was actually very tired, but the 200mg dose kept me up, only with some "symptoms" of sleepiness. 100mg couldn't do that.
Today I took another 100mg, after sleeping about 5 hours the day before. I took the dose and went to sleep. Woke up 2 hours later (almost exactly! like the last time I took 200). What's strange is that I woke up naturally, but was tired. Usually when I wake up from Ritalin (after taking it and going to sleep), I would wake up alert, but jittery. Today I woke up sleepy (which is a contradiction), and "wanted" to get up. The sleepy feeling faded after a while.
Important to note (even though it's kind of redundant by now) - was EXTREMELY focused on anything I was doing, without even feeling the time passes. It was a much more elegant feeling than being on Ritalin, which made me very concentrated, but also very highly susceptible to interruptions and maybe "too" energized for my own good.

congrats on the success of your moda trial! looks like you really found something working for you.
how'd you compare modafinil and ritalin overall? that is, if you can only choose one, and take only 1 med. the biggest concern is ritalin/adderall are schedule 2 while moda is only schedule 4. moda has ~0 addiction/abuse potential while i read some say the amphetamine-like props of ritalin/adderall aren't so good.

Thank you, although today I woke up with a headache, and even though I've slept for 8 hours - I was extremely tired. On the plus side - woke up naturally (which usually doesn't happen after just 8 hours), and after sleeping another 3 hours I'm very alert. It is now about 24 hours since I've taken the last 200mg dose and I don't feel I need another one soon. I guess I'll take 100mg in about 2 hours (even if I won't feel tired).
As for your question - Modafinil, definitely! The only problem with it is the price... From the trail so far, I think I'll need between 300-400 daily (although some claim that after a while one needs less than the dose he started with), which is expensive. Ritalin is far less so. There are also some benefits to Ritalin, but if I had to choose the state to be one regularly - my Ritalin state wouldn't be the best one (although I'd choose it from my normal state any day).

there're supposedly better things in the pipeline to treat SWSD/Excessive Sleepiness, like Nuvigil/armodafinil http://en.wikipedia....iki/Armodafinil
is likely to be superior to Provigil/modafinil, it could just be a sales gimmick by cephalon to get more patents and money. if cyborg-zation or uploading preserves IQ/ID, we'd ~transcend beyond human physiology , lol forget Meds/Disease!!!
since modafinil has 10-18 hrs half-life and from the posts in this thread, the "after-hours" effect seems real, one can stagger and plan doses so that Brain is under the influence 24/7.
the main concern is: what's the longest long-term study on this substance (months, years? surely some narcoleptic took it for a decade since they really really need this), and if it can have adverse effects if used over years/decades, religiously
unlike caffiene , World's most traded and popular drug , used for millenia, mod is used for years, with the precursor adrafinil for decades.

1 thing i'd like to know is if it is good to be on a constant state of modafinil-enhanced state, or if it can lose its power, eventually backfire/backlash, if there is a way to maximize the benefits of it w/ 100% health potential, 0% bad.

I think you're referring to down-regulation of the effect of certain substances in vivo. I think there might be such effect with Modafinil (strictly speculating here), but I bet it'll still retain efficiency even in long term use. Many users have even claim that they need LESS after a period of use, which also makes certain sense. So I wouldn't worry to much about this.
You'll never be able to get such a long term study that'll cover you completely, because that study would have to be conducted through your entire life, if the drug was presented after you were born. So you can never be sure about any new drug. However, there's pretty much an agreement, which you'd have to agree is very sensible, that even though certain drugs are very different from each other - they DO have similarities you can count on, such as safety, which can also be somewhat concluded from shirt term trails. For an extreme example - there's no way a third arm would grow on your forehead after 15 years of using drug X, even though it was tested to be safe for only a decade. Another important note is that there shouldn't be any sudden effect - every effect is built up... so for the arm example, if that were to be a side effect, you'd notice a buldging on your forehead after a couple of years. So if you haven't - you can pretty much be calm. Same goes for efficacy - if people are claiming it is maintained - you can probably be sure it'll keep that way.

I don't understand how anyone is "noticing" effects of 100mg or less. I'm looking forward to nuvigil (Cephalon is launching the active isomer of modafinil) in 2009.

You're right. I only noticed 100mg when first starting on Mod. Now it's barely noticeable (although if I take 100mg with a low dose of Ritalin, it helps). Now I only take 200mg for effect (and 100mg if I don't feel I need it, just to keep the regimen), which is a good dose but doesn't last long (about 5-7 hours, depending). This means that I need to take 400mg daily, only I can't afford it. So for 5-7 hours of efficacy, I now take either 200mg Mod, or 100mg Mod with 10-15mg of Ritalin.
BTW, expect nuvigil to cost an arm and a leg, if you can spare them

you should try taking your 400mg in one dose. It will last 8 hours in terms of noticeable effects, I'm prescribed 300mg am 300mg noon but sometimes I have a hard time sleeping if I take provigil later in the day. I find 600mg in the morning seems to give me good full 8 hours and it wears off slowly for for the rest of the day. When I was taking the Adderall XR it was a crash after 8 hours.

Meanwhile I'm handling 200mg pretty well, adding some Ritalin if necessary. There's no way I'd be able to afford 400mg and above. I'm starting a poll about member's Modafinil doses. Check it out.

I have been watching...actually, I ordered some modafinil (modalert I think it was) on airsealed. Should be here in a week or two. I'll post my report, but I am not expecting much. I received a sample of adrafinil a couple years ago and my report is on these forums. I was not impressed with adrafinil and hoping modafinil to be different.
Ghostrider, 2 years, quite a wait/transition from the prodrug to drug.
i've been reading, interested in your trial experiment. Similar to Ghostrider, the sample adrafinil i tried isn't 100% of what it's hyped to be (it's real adrafinil --> moda, since only brand existing is Olmifon, so yeah the real deal and not fake). it's better than nothing (seemed to help) and better than caffiene and some energy drinks.
The Modalert came and I tried 2 doses of 50 mg yesterday. I took the first 50 and felt nothing. I don't think I recall feeling anything remarkable later in the day either. Around 6-7 PM I felt tired from staying up late the previous night and I decided to try another 50 mg expecting no effect. I took a nap and after about 1 hour later, I did get an effect. I felt quite stimulated, like having consumed an energy drink. I had pretty good concentration and felt uplifted mood. I just felt good and although I could concentrate, I felt like doing other more interesting things. I went to bed around 4 AM and woke up initially around 8:30, but forced myself to sleep further until 11. I think modafinil can affect sleep. Similar to caffeine, it also raised my heart rate which is an effect that I am not too thrilled about. I tried another 50 mg this afternoon and I think I was a bit overstimulated, although I could focus, I felt a stronger desire than the night before to do other things especially talking to people over the phone. Some of the modafinil was probably still in my system from the previous day. I am thinking 50 mg is my max dose for now. I think 100 mg would be a bit too much to take at once. I plan to take a break from modafinil for a few days and then continue experimenting later. The effect I would say feels is a lot like caffeine, smoother, but I do think it affects depth of sleep. I think I can fall asleep easier on modafinil compared to caffeine, but I think both prevent me from entering the deeper sleep.

Glad it worked on you, and that you don't need more than 50mg. I take 50mg on the days I don't feel any need for it, just to keep the stuff in my system. 200mg is perfect most of the time for me, although sometimes it doesn't seem to work, so I add some Ritalin (no more than 15mg). I've also found that 100mg Modafinil coupled with 10mg Ritalin is enough to last me a good 4-5 hours of proper alertness, motivation and concentration. Sometimes it's a bit too much and sometimes a bit too little. for the former, it is a pity because I can't tell whether it's gonna be too much, so I get a bit jittery (and also elevated heart rate, like you). I don't mind the jitters, they are mild and even drive me to work faster. The problem is that I "crash" when the effect ends. Now with Modafinil it's not as noticeable, but still. This was more pronounced when I took 35-40mg Ritalin.
But pretty much 100mg Mod plus 10-15mg Ritalin is the sweet spot. If I take 200mg of Modafinil, I don't need the Ritalin, but if doesn't last more than 6 hours.
Anyway, Ghostrider - I would try adding a dash of Methylphenidate (Ritalin) to your Mod dosage, to examine the effect.

I tried 100 mg Modafinil (Modalart) today and I am quite impressed. I would describe the experience as pretty similar to this article:

I would say that 100 mg is my upper limit. I think it's a tad too strong in fact as I often find myself bouncing my legs as I am sitting in a chair studying, overstimulation I think. Sweet spot for me is probably around 70 mg. I don't plan to use it everyday, just when I need that extra edge/motivation to study on the weekends. Mostly because it has not been used for long-term and I want to limit my risk, even though it appears harmless and has very low side effects, none that I can tell other than increased alertness. My experience with Modalert has so far been completely different than Adrafinil. I think I would recommend modalert over phenylpiracetam as it's stronger, cheaper, better studied, and made from a major pharma company instead of an unknown supplier.

I wouldn't commit to an upper limit just yet. I too thought that 100mg is more than enough, but I got used to it very soon. Don't worry too much about the risk - it's one of the safer meds. Glad it has been working for you. What else do you take? Any SSRIs? Supplements?

Fish oil, resveratrol (200 mg t-res Now brand). Occasionally, ALCAR and multi...keep forgetting to take the multi.
