What is considered a safe but effective dosage of DLPA while on MAO-B selective dosages of selegiline?

Anyone tried this combo and have anything positive or negative to report?

I have found this combination to be the most effective pre-socialisation combos of any I have tried. Significant euphoria, lowered inhibitions, enhanced social cognition. Also, an absolutely terrible hangover the day after. In fact, the after effects were sufficient that I through my DLPA supply away. However, that was at 250mg of DLPA, which is far too much to use in combination with selegiline.

For a sustainable combination you could try 25mg a day. 10mg of selegiline with 25mg of DLPA gives a reliable anti-depressant effect.

Be very careful. Significant abuse potential.

Wow.  That's scary. The tabs I've ordered are 750mg DLPA!

Maybe I should try the DLPA without the selegiline (I'm taking a break from the selegiline at the moment anyway...)

So: What are the effective dosages _without_ selegiline? I'm seeking a nootropic effect, not a recreational effect. Mood lifting OK. Euphoria not OK.

any notice of hypertension (blurred vision, flushing, pounding headache, excessive urination) when trying this combo? It doesn't sound all that safe. The people here who tried PEA and deprenyl posted results that made me wonder if they were suicidal.

I have been taking those same tabs (no deprenyl). Suggested use is 1-3 tabs / day.

Why are you using DLPA, it just converts to tyrosine, just get tyrosine.

Well, technically, only the L half converts to tyrosine. Part of the pharma action is supposed to be due to the D half, which is resistant to conversion, which has various implications, so it's not exactly equivalent to using tyrosine.

I did not really notice anything at all. I usually split the tab in half and take one half once or twice a week. How is DLPA related to deprenyl? Is there synergy?

Yes, the there have been several studies on the effects of the combo for depression, amongst other things, and the combo is quite synergistic. There is some debate about the pharmacology -- the common theory is that the effect is an indirect version of the PEA + selegine combo, but there is some question as to whether PEA is actually the principal active metabolite. It's also not entirely clear what role the D isomer plays, but DLPA is more potent than LPA by itself in this combo, apparently.

The effects seem real enough, even if the pharma is not entirely understood or agreed upon. Anyway, I've seen dosages as high as 1000mg or more (!) while on 2.5mg selegiline described, but it looks like a case of titrate up very cautiously and slowly from a low dose. I've got some DLPA ordered, but I might hold back a bit about going on the DLPA + selegiline combo until I understand what I'm dealing with a bit better.

I thought polling this group for experiences might be a good place to start...

Via an indirect route, some of the DLPA ends up as dopamine. Selegiline reduces the breakdown of dopamine.

Whats the benifit of the other half then?

D phenylalanine is used for pain issues, chronic pain. The D form helps prevent the breakdown of endorphins and enkalphalins.

The d form is sold separately and is more expensive.

The DLA pharma story actually gets more complicated than that. It's still not completely understood.

I've never seen the D- form sold separately -- do you have a link?

I've only seen it sold as DLPA, which is 50% D- form, 50% L- form.

I imagine if you could buy the D- form by itself it would be considerably more expensive due to the cost of separating the D- isomer.  I haven't seen any studies suggesting there is a compelling reason to use a pure D- form, though.

EDIT:

Yeah, you can buy the pure D- form -- and it is about 3x the price:

http://www.seacoastv...n...2&zmap=1578

It seems to be pitched at people who want pain relief, but may be sensitive to elevated dopamine levels, and so want to avoid the L- form.

I'm sure the pharmacology of D-PA is more complicated than just its action on endorphins.
The d form is marketed for pain relief as far as I know.

I used the D form because I would get some muscle tension, kinks, knots in my neck and shoulders.

http://www.seacoastv...n...2&zmap=1578

I also tried this product (Phenocane) because it has only 75 mg of D-PA. I had used both selegiline and DLPA and thought 500 mg of DLPA was too high. (I don't like dealing with powders, particularly small amounts or dosages). The 75 mg dose seemed like it might be a workable dose.

http://www.pennherb....nfo/scan97.html

I experienced ocassional headaches from too high a dose of DLPA. I don't take selegiline now just DLPA.

I've read on neuroassist.com that if a person has some type of NT imbalance or maybe something like long-standing depression then they would need higher than normal levels of NTs. My NTs were high because of the selegiline and DLPA combo (urine NT test). That site has a lot of info but it recommends you work with an experienced practioner; and there are other side effects from using that approach like GI upset from agressive tryptophan dosages. I'm not sure if I agree with the higher than normal levels but it does sound interesting. Neuroassist seems to rely on amino acids only.

I found dlpa for £5 per 100g (very reliable source - have purchased tryptophan from this company and the quality is good). Doesn't appear to be THAT expensive. Maybe it has come down in price. I spend more on two pints of beer!

I'm confused now... I was reading some other thread on some other forum and it was saying (I think) that the DL form is crap, go for L- form. But here it seems to say the D is something vital for really making selegeline fun...

so which is it?

Also, if I tried selegeline with enough of this to produce -some- mild euphoria, would I still have this killer hangover? And how bad are these hangovers anyhow?

Let me put it this way, it's fucking stupid to attempt recreational abuse of this combination, every report ends the same and the hypertension is potentially terminal. If you're that desperate to get high, smoke some weed or snort some amphetamine.

Just so that people are aware, DLPA + Deprenyl (Selegiline) has been touted as an effective combo for some types of depression etc. not at all due to just the DA effects, but more due to DLPA's metabolism into PEA, while the MAO-B inhibition concomitantly maintains more of it around to be used in the CNS. (This carries with it all the miraculous implications that many people with treatment-resistant depression find in the heightened levels thereof, since PEA levels are usually found to be quite lacking in such individuals). I don't care to expound too much on this right now, but there are more sources/anecdotes all over the internet, so just look into it.. :) IMO, just keep it to 2.5-5mg Deprenyl daily (taking a day off every few as it builds up anyway) and slowly ramp up from 250mg DLPA per dose while evaluating benefits vs. sides etc., and you should be fine. While all the warnings of being leery of hypertension and such are definitely warranted for all these and related substances, you should be aware that these warnings apply much more (i.e. VERY seriously) to dosing exogenous "PEA" (150-200mg) rather than DLPA while on Deprenyl.

Hope this adds a few cents.

I haven't tried Selegiline and PEA, but have taken 1.25-2.5mg of Selegiline with 500mg of DLPA and would describe it as a mild mood lift and very mild euphoria.

DLPA inhibits the breakdown of enkephalin (endorphin) by the enzyme carboxypeptidase A.

from my experiences low dose dl phenylalanine is to much stimulating .it wasnt like l tyrosine it was different kind of stimulation , more stimulating. is it beacuse of conversion to PEA or phenylalanine itself is a stimulant i dont konw. side effects : ear ringing (tinnitus ) and anxiety. it causes more anxiety ( lowers more serotonin ) than l tyrosine.

I would love a little anxiety... er rather to not be so numb to the world. I feel pretty invincible on Selegiline, and coffee puts me to sleep now. I think I have too much serotonin. Tea is still an upper, so that just adds to my hypothesis. How does DLPA go about lowering serotonin? I know the D-isomer lowers GABAergic circuits in the midbrain (causing an increase in synaptic dopamine), could that have anything to do with it?

First couple doses gave me a headache, but after that, the effects seemed to die down without sublingual administration. Effects were mainly dopaminergic, but not in the area of focus, more in the area of confidence and happiness.

This combo should be safe in healthy people, just as tyrosine and amphetamine are safe (in moderation). The PEA+selegiline is the only thing I'm not very sure about, but it shouldn't be that damaging if it's used responsibly. It could trigger certain dopamine-related illnesses, though. This guy can attest to that: http://www.erowid.or...xp.php?ID=73722. Just to play it safe, I would use the L- isomer, since it doesn't metabolize to PEA, though this defeats the purpose of getting high.

Learn from this guy: http://www.longecity...eadeprenyl-log/.

I love the combo of DLPA and n acetyl tyrosine.

There have been those on other threads giving little logical reason or evidence stating to just go with LPA but I very much like the effect of the D , it has great mood elevation, motivation and pain reduction effects for me. Without a MAO though daily this combo builds tolerance fairly quickly With a MAO I'm not sure how long one could go without tolerance. I am curious...
