Well succesfull plastic surgery doesn't mean that person will look like he's "surgically altered". I mean - young looks isn't a "mystical" thing at all. It consists of a number of factors. Like - some persons eyelids may start sagging/drooping - remove the excess skin and voilla - he's back to the "state" he was before that happening. It's really funny if somebody would say "Oh, he/she looks her age, because... he/she had that "work" done.". That's not how it goes - they look young or they does not, no matter what lenghts they went to achieve that.

If the surgery is very successful and people can't tell, then the person would look naturally young. Otherwise it looks like a face that underwent surgery so most people would know better than to take years off the person's age.

The thing is - there are many sites nit picking faces of celebrities and commenting like "Eh.. seems Ms.X had some job done on her nose", when I wouldn't take a second look at that nose in such a context. And some ppl look so good for their age that spectators just assume they "must have something done". Of course there are bad surgery examples.

But I don't think Joan Jett is an example of one, if in fact she has had something done.

At the risk of being distasteful, I'd like to submit the case of Jaycee Lee Dugard who was recently rescued after some sicko abducted her 18 years ago. She is now 29, but according to the authorities who found her looks "uncommonly young." Her grandfather said that she looks almost the same as she did as a kid. They suggested that her youthful appearance had to do with her lack of sun exposure (she was confined to a shed). Interesting.

Nope. They probably want to protect her privacy for obvious reasons.

It's funny you mentioned this. My first thought after I red an article in the news about that case was "I wonder, how does she look after all these years in the "cage". It'd be really interesting to see pics of her.

TheFountain>Robby Robinson, one of the legendary bodybuilders. I've been following his blog for a few years and it seems (to me) that he actually got younger looks wise. Overall cool dude/personality.  Visit his website, there's a trailer of documentary "Built". What seemed impressive to me - there's a moment where he walks, and his movements are like that of a 20 year old lol.. He has a blog too (all easily found on google) with some good info about lifestyle, exercising and mental philosophy on these areas.

nicole still looks in 40s to me and matt dont look 17 id give matt 23 or so in his latest pic on his website on his profile pic he looks 18 or so but go to his wesbite and you can see he looks 22 23 in latest pic hes really skinny so this would help him look young but id still say 23

Can you cite the specifics of what makes him look 23? Then can you compare detail by detail the difference between looking 23 and looking, say, 18?

Thanks.

TheFountain, it's quite simple, I don't look 23 at all ^^ lol. You kind of realise this fact when you get people sending you emails everyday and commenting everyday, and people who meet me assuming I was only about 17 before finding out my actual age. This happens many times every week (over a period of 4 years now). I don't go, oh guess how old i am?! hahaha. They just assume I was that young. I worked with 18-20 year olds because we have many students working part time in my place, and most of them thought I was younger than they were! oO 23 pfftttt :D Look at some talent contests or whatever, like x factor, which you'll see most of the teenagers there don't like much different than i do in age. See some people between 16-18. Theres reallly not all that much difference at all. I have 17-18 year old friends and we look the same age. I don't look 23, rarrrrrr!!!!!! hehe lol. No one has ever said I thought i was over 19 in real life ((ever)).
17 years old
16 year old
16 years old.

TheFountain, there will always be people that disagree, but if its only like one different view out of 50 or 100 opinions or something, then it doesn't really matter :)

He just has a mature look as in not 17 but 20s and i agree some people who are 16 17 look more some people in school look 22 etc x factor and are 17 i think becuse most drink and smoke from 14 up so this will make them look older then they are
In the picture matt has on profile he looks 16 but on his website he looks 22 23 in his latest pic and the one from last year etc he looks 20s and i could tell he was in 20s i would never say he looks 18 even the one where he is 17 he looks 19 or so i think in his picture when hes 20 he looks 17 but in rest i would say 19 to 22 23
You cant judge by most teens look a lot older then they are its from all that drugs and drink and bad diets some are going bald i have seen some teens at 14 who have balding hairlines as in mature hairline the rounded type a man gets in his late 20s as the junk food and beer is affecting there dna
Dont get me wrong i think what matts doing is great and hes a great guy and looks really healty but his profile pic is only picture where he looks young rest 19 to 22 or 23 i will ask my friends later to check his pics and guess his age and see what they say but i think he looks his age
I DONT ME TO SOUND SMART OR ANYTING TOWARDS MATT BUT IM JUST BEING HONEST HIS PROFILE PICTURE LOOKS WAY DIFF TO ALL THE REST

maybe when matts 35 or so he could look 25 but for now he looks his age
for now he just looks like a very slim 23 year old forget his slim body and look at his face to me 22 23
if matt was same weight as a normal 23 year old he would look no diffren maybe just better health wise etc but no younger

Hey thanks for your opinion anyway, although I find it hard to take seriously when i've got 99.9% of people saying something completely different to you... the people that see me in real life. And thats what matters most yeah???? :) Just a few weeks ago I was talking to nurses and they thought I was only 17, when I joined the library the women wasn't sure i was old enough! And why is it that everytime I go into work I get a million questions from lots of girls, and the boys about what i eat, how i look so young bla bla bla.... lol. And thats just one picture dude, I look younger in real life than in pictures too.

< feels like a complete idiot defending myself LOL

The only thing that can make Matt look older is a wise/mature look in his eyes, I don't see any other signs of aging that would put him above 20, there just aren't any, and I remember seeing his older pics where he was 16 or 17, and he DOES look younger now, so it's kinda...strong not having an eye for peoples age I guess lol..

Matt, I guess soon some people u know in real life will start to hate you for not aging lol :D People are way more conscious about this then they would like to admit.

I can try to cite the specifics. Compare ages 17 and 24 in this picture. The area around his mouth has got more prominent compared to his cheekbones. This is a dead giveaway in males for being post-teenage. (I suffer from the same problem myself—perhaps I'm just projecting?)

(The picture at age 25 doesn't show this "mouth-prominence" problem, but it's taken at entirely different angle and lighting.)

I don't know whether this effect is caused by changes in fat deposition or a loss in skin elasticity. I don't think these effects have been studied much since, unfortunately, most cosmetic aging research seems to study people at least 40 year old (an economically understandable choice considering their purchasing power and greater worry of aging).

Do you think we could find some even lower-res, more poorly lit, more poorly focused photos from which to make our conclusions? Might as well be reading tea leaves.

Forgive me but you are not making any sense. What do you mean by 'mature eyes'. It is a vague mystical statement that has nothing to do with guessing someones age and everything to do with filling in the blanks about the fact that you already knew his age and thus are pumping up your own phony ability to guess it. Obviously you can't guess what you already know. I would say he looks 18-19 tops (and this is my honest appraisal).

But for you to just drop out of the sky with some mystical mumbo jumbo statement and then to link it to equally mystical estimations of the causation behind it, I find this preposterous. Have you ever seen a 17-18 year old with a serious look on their faces? You mean to tell me that no matter how serious their face their eyes will always look like big, dopey and silly lil 17 year old eyes? Maybe you should have a reality show allowing you to guess peoples ages then. Because that is a remarkable ability. Not.

What lighting conditions are optimal for guessing peoples ages? Should we just turn all the lights off and hold a flashlight to the bottom of our faces so we all look like Dracula and everyone can see our true ages (100-150 years old)? Or is there some other mystical combination of lighting that can more clearly define the years we have been on this planet? Perhaps a neon black light?

I haven't seen enough pictures of Matt to judge, but personally I think he looks very early twenties in that pic above (20 if I had to guess). It's the shape of his mid-face. From the cheekbone to the pouch beside his lips it's kind of flat/concave. Children/teenagers tend to have more of a convex mid-face. I used to work as a consultant for people seeking plastic surgery, so I have an eye for little facial details like that. And it's not a bad thing -- as a woman I find that lack of baby fat attractive on a guy. I think men look best in their twenties.

I'll grant that Matt may look younger in real life than he does in pictures (as he says many people irl are shocked at his age), and I'm just going on one picture and a couple of others I vaguely remember.

I'm simply pointing out that the poster's opinion on that photo isn't totally outlandish, and it's not really fair for you guys to dismiss his opinion just because it's in the minority.

Unless they are extremely skinny. Oh what a coincidence, Matt is extremely skinny. Look at pictures of an extremely skinny teenager and you'll (maybe) get what I mean.

Right....

The thing is baby fat and subcutaneous fat are not one in the same. Baby fat essentially drops when you're in your mid-teens. What some people refer to as baby fat thereafter is really just subcutaneous fat deposits from being normal to slightly over weight (remember how many americans are obese, etc). You have to take into account also that Matts cheek bones look more prominent in that photo because he is partly lit and partly shaded. Anyone with a very skinny face from doing CR would have that, whether they are 24 or 17. Ever seen pics of ethiopian children? Although that is an exaggerated example.

I'm hoping to get a good quality video camera soon for video blogging and stuff, maybe you can see then better than still pictures. We all know how these things go when a person has an opinion, it rarely changes... especially on this topic :) But who to believe? People that see me in real life everyday.... or a few comments on the internet from still pictures??? Kind of obvious :D

Is it any wonder so many people think this thread sucks? Not only does it obsess over triviality, but it contains gems like this. Actually, black light is capable of exposing photodamage that is otherwise not easily visible.

Lol, that's just a pumped up muscle around the mouth. Any teenager with a chubbier face woud have the same "effect" because of am extra fat deposit(or someone skinny enough not to have fat around and expose that muscle)..

BTW - I had that "concaved" look on my cafe from my very early teen age, as I was allways skinny with minimal fat.

I think photos or so deceptive , especially when one is under 35. Get a good tan, gain some weight in the face and it will make anybody look younger, provided they don't already have serious skin damage from the sun/ or are overweight.

How about this at Age 34:

Whoever he is, looks his age. If not even approaching 40 (receding hairline, forehead wrinkles, lower face furrows). Sorry. By the way what is this 'when one is under 35' thing? I have seen quite a few 35 year olds who, when taking care of themselves, actually do not look that bad. Just because 35 is the age when most people begin to show signs of all the years of dietary poisoning, does not mean it must be so. Those who have taken care of themselves well and avoided the sun till this age do not show the same signs. Fact.
