Just wanted to exemplify this again with a video. Here you see Jared and his co-star Colin Farrell in a film together. Farrell is 5 years younger than Leto but, to my eyes, looks 5 years older than him. I don't think Farrell is a vegetarian. I wonder if it could be increased IGF-1 output.

Doubtful. Farrell smokes and is notorious for partying / using drugs. Finally, that video quality is terrible. At least use examples free from compression artifacts or of a adequate size (HD).

Here's an even more alarming example. The first man is 35, the second, again Jared Leto almost 38....

unfortunately its not that uncommon for people at 35-40 to look that old now... I refer to that fat guy you put a photo of on here. But saying that, I see photos of my grandparents and they looked old from a young age too. True for many others in the 'olden days' :)

Rob Lowe was not genetically engineered. He looked just as young as Jared at that age. Heck I would also if I had his hair...lol

Does anyone else think that people in the entertainment industry get plastic surgery, injections and other cosmetic treatments. Heck, everyday people do these things. I am not saying that Jared Leto receives treatments (though he might), but I am sure it is highly prevalent in his field of work.

You people really love Jared Leto.

In my observation most people who get some sort of surgical intervention get something that is fairly noticeable. They very seldom tend to look like their younger selves but some altered version of their older selves. Jared Leto looks, for the most part, exactly how he did 20 years ago, with the exception of the way he dresses. He hasn't aged a day since he was 18 is what I am saying and it is really strange. Not quite Dick Clark strange, but strange nonetheless. I wonder if he could be the first genetically cloned super human.

I think in some photos, and definitely on videos of ralph macchio (from the karate kid) he looks so young. He's 47 years old in the picture below

While pictures can be deceiving he does look a fair bit younger when he dyes the grey out of his hair. Lots of guys that age dye grey out but you can still tell how old they are. He can pass for 31 in this picture. And if he got rid of some of the discoloration around his eyes he might be able to pass for younger.

Here he is with his daughter. I wouldn't think he was her father if I saw them out in public together. Older cousin maybe, but not father.

I read somewhere that he had some kind of hormone imbalance which might have something to do with why he looked 15 at 23. But I don't know anything else about it.

No they were just rumors.... I was getting getting child's fairs on buses at age 22=-23! (you have to be 15 or under).

This was Ralph at 27? At 27 he looked like a teenager to me. I remember watching karate kid 3 and thinking he was in his teens. You can see the movie on youtube as well

I think that if he looked after his skin and avoided sun more he would of looked even better... but still amazing from what i can see. I guess these are the kind of resutls, or a bit better, than I expect from starting CR at a young age, like 18 or something. :-) I hope so!

Brad Pitt and Robert Redford are often used as examples of what happens when you DONT take care of your skin. But, they are also good examples of overall health maintenance minus the face maintenance part, which many respect for being balanced without excessive self-absorption.

However, they both look pretty good in this snapshot from Spygames, especially Brad Pitt who, although tired looking, obviously looks really good at 37 in this particular lighting, setting, hairstyle, attire and atmosphere:

I might even go as far as to say that he looks better than Jared Leto did at 37, since Mr. Leto had a slight decrease in fineness of texture that is noticeable.
But, I have to rest on that before a final determination because I may just be inured to Mr. Leto's photos, cause he is definitely a prodigy.

I am some what hesitantly submitting my photo. This was taken in August. I am 26, soon to be 27 (October 8).

Since my early 20s, I've been pretty good about avoiding sun exposure. Before that, I probably could have done better in terms of diet and UV protection (especially since I am of a light complexion).

I think I look close to my age. People used to assume I was quite a bit younger than my real age until I turned 25.

dont worry, I think all of us are quite hesistant towards putting up pictures, you open yourself upto lots of potential critisism. I only do it because i know that in real life, regardless of how my photos sometimes show, i always get mistake for being about 17 or something... so like, this is just a bit of fun on here :)

and what happened at 25, why so sudden! :S lol im 25 in 3 weeks! when i have my hair down i look younger, when i have a cap on.... well lets not even go there! ;)

i think you've maybe just 'matured' a bit more now Skotkonung...

If you're wearing t-shirt and bermudas, very casual clothes basically, I would've have thought you're still in college. In the first picture, I thought you look about 3-4 years younger than 27. But maybe I'm not that good of a judge because the only people I know of your age-range are my cousins (8 of them) and they all look pretty old because of poor diet, smoking and job/family stress.

Clothing, hairstyle and all that makes a huge difference in terms of how old people will guess you are.

the main difference i notice between me and my friends is they seem to have 'thicker' looking skin, is that what happens when you mature. The type or ratios of collagen change? Mine seems to be more thin and soft. Child skin has more type III and your skin changes I believe upto age 35 when it reaches its peak in terms of strength and whatever. Does anyone know much more about this?

The balance of testosterone to estrogen greatly affects the texture and thickness of your skin. Do you know if CR alters your hormone panel? You could just be genetically lucky!

"This reproductive hormone prevents a decrease in skin collagen in postmenopausal women; topical and systemic estrogen therapy can increase the skin collagen content and therefore maintain skin thickness."
...
"Skin wrinkling also may benefit from estrogen as a result of the effects of the hormone on the elastic fibers and collagen. Outside of its influence on skin aging, it has been suggested that estrogen increases cutaneous wound healing by regulating the levels of a cytokine."
[source]

Interestingly, men who undergo sex reassignment surgery (or take female hormones) usually see an improvement in skin texture and appearance. The result is softer skin. [source]

It can lower testosterone quite a lot... i know my voice is still like a person in mid teens haha. I think this helps me a lot too... i can sound really young!

btw, my sister is 22 and people think shes 16 too... and she had far more sun exposure than me, but she does have a few lines (minor)

That might be it? A lifetime of exposure to high testosterone causes the skin to get much rougher with age? Less testosterone means more preservation of youth-like qualities?

When I was a child I used to play outside all the time - always sun burning and getting tanned. Now I know better, but the damage is done. At age 24-25 I started seeing some thin lines appearing on my forehead and around my eyes. That's when I stepped up my skin care regimen to a new level. I still think my skin will continue to get worse as that prior skin damage surfaces?

I don't know, can it take a lot of time for the damage to surface? I've seen PLENTY of teens with fine lines around their eyes, usually the first place to show up. I had one or two and realised it was just skin dryness, thew! lol

According to this website, some of the effects of photo-aging appear soon and some much later in life.

- "People who sunbathe regularly show photoaging early in life, often before 30 years of age. Chronologically aged skin more often shows changes after age 40 or older."

- "Freckling, fine wrinkling and dilation of capillaries are often seen early in the photoaging process."

- "Photoaged skin often develops irregular pigmentation (liver spots) in later years."

- "Both photoaging and chronological aging cause wrinkling and loss of skin elasticity. However, these changes occur much earlier when skin has been overexposed to the sun."

Matt, I hope you are using sufficient UV protection. That way you can see how effective (or ineffective) CR is at preserving skin quality.
