If it's not too late:

I've seen the list of proposed therapies for each of the the 7 SENS strands...is there any sort of backup list, in case some of these therapies hit stumbling blocks?

Good question, some of us think we should help to facilitate the growth of such a list more directly. If you want to get in on more discussions about that, you or anybody, then let us know, pm me and mention it here. There are a couple of projects developing surrounding the concept. For example, a contest, and a researcher forums with peer reviewed journals included. Then also a lab that is for a broader range of projects, and a couple of undergrad funds that can all potentially tie into this.

I'm certainly interested in getting in on more discussions about it (one of the reasons I asked is because I've had several alternative ideas)...also - how about a wiki, to compile information relevant to SENS and rejuvenation science?

We could get undergrads to dream up strategies but thats not efficient. Graduate students and researchers in the field are what we need, but how do we harness that? Lazarus suggests a contest to design a project. Im not sure if he means for something like this exactly, but it could work for helping develop other strategies. Then also if we could get researchers to collaborate in a central forum we could spur strategy development there. But how do we set that up? We have some ideas, but do you have a spin on it?

This isnt to spite sens, sens will probably remain one of the top main strategies and will get the most attention and funding, but the competition could beat it out. It would compete and help keep sens fresh and that kind of thing, in addition to the main point, which is to fund and help move along as many good viable strategies for ending aging as possible.

I mean, lets say that we find that maybe... 3.7 percent of the population has a really strong biology aptitude. Lets get research and funds for them all to work on this. Let no available resource go unharnessed.
