Aubrey is preparing a statement. Yay!

Do you know if Aubrey will promote the project on Facebook?

Do you know if Gavrilov is posting a blog or anything for this? I wonder how many bloggers we have around here that have viewerships of any amount say, at least 10 or more.

BTW, someone should make a list of life extension-related blogs and ask them to blog about the project.

Thats what I was trying to say, but with trying to use phrases like "somebody should do this" sparingly around the forum. I keep getting people who tell me that I should stop offering so many suggestions and that I should do it myself. To a degree they are right. And your right, somebody should do it, yes, but the few of us that do things are pretty much booked solid. We have plenty of members that could help with this.

How we get them to step up to the plate, well its hard, but we are getting there. We work with that every day. We are having more and more successes, but we need still more.

5000$ more required / 20$ per person = 250 more motivated persons needed :) how many were we so far ?

some disillution perhaps: usual lab research costs much so giving coffee and a few dollars to heavy research is good but probably won't do much. There are research grants for that

hopefully some people will donate more :)

43 people have donated so far, which is an average of $69.10 per person.

As far as contacting people, DJS and I have been busy doing some of that. Here are the groups and people with blogs that we have contacted:

X James Hughes - IEET James.Hughes@trincoll.edu director@ieet.org
X Michael Anissimov - Accelerating Future
X Mike Perry - The Society for Venturism
X Kevin Perrot
X CAR (healthyyears.org)
X Abolitionist Society
X Reason TLM
X Alcor
X CI
X h+
X several transhumanist meet-up groups
X Inhuman Experiment
X Zombie Robot Frosting
X James Clement, H+ ezine
X A4M
X Terasem
X Bruce Klein, SingularityU

X SENSF (of course)
X Digg
X Slashdot
X Next Big Future

If anyone can think of anyone else who has a blog or news service, please list them here and we can contact them.

Also, please list any other innovative incentives you can think of BEFORE MONDAY. So far we have the free tour of SENSF research center for everyone who donates over $50.

i joined
- many facebook groups related to aging and
- many facebook groups related to Bill Gate.
each time i added the following lik: http://www.facebook....id=242324630703
Who knows...

Perhaps some people can do the same with other subjects / persons / foundations

Otherwise i often receive anti-aging related grant proposals, i'm not sure if that's of interest?

That's not a good idea; we don't want to spam people.

Why did you still link to a group? You should have linked directly to the project page at http://www.imminst.o...-research-grant as I've mentioned before. In this case, a group is just an unnecessary obstacle that potential donors have to go through in order to donate.

Perhaps some people can do the same with other subjects / persons / foundations

I think we should stick to Transhumanist and life extension-related groups and causes only; we don't want to be perceived as purveyors of spam.

I don't know what you mean here. Please explain.

Why did you still link to a group?

? maybe we don't use the word 'link' for the same meaning: at the bottom of a facebook page, there is a "link" section. i linked http://www.imminst.o...-research-grant like here http://www.facebook....?gid=8208901822 (Kurzweil's group) or the laser facebook group (that i created on your demand http://www.facebook....id=242324630703 ) like here http://www.facebook....gid=81069009305 (SENS 100M$).

I hope that's clearer. i proposed you to create the facebook group and handle facebook if you prefer. I don't know if i can make you the owner of the group? especially if you think it is particularly touchy. If you want you can provide me with the content and image of your choice that i will put on the group that i created on your demand. The link that appears in other groups would instantaneously be updated: linking as i did is rather safe.

I think we should stick to Transhumanist and life extension-related groups and causes only

for now we are relying on imminst-like persons. is anyone contacting 'rich' persons? don't you think it could be an occasion?

anti-aging related grant proposals

research labs in general don't beg money to typical imminst persons. they generally apply for research grants (from the NIH, NSF,etc). Once i signed to regularly receive anti-aging related grant proposals by email but I never read them. The thing is that in order to receive a grant you generally need to be a student or researcher in a research institution, to prepare a specific folder for the grant, and it may take several months.

I added the 30 for 30 link to the main Article. Maybe I should add it closer to the top as well.

Feel free to promote the matching challenge when you update your twitter or facebook, or when you contact other orgs/blogs. It is basically a X6 matching. Every $30 dollars donated becomes $180.

Yes, that's better. You should post it to that group's Board and Wall as well and you might want to use the laser image since its more eye catching.

or the laser facebook group (that i created on your demand http://www.facebook....id=242324630703 ) like here http://www.facebook....gid=81069009305 (SENS 100M$).

I never said that I wanted a Facebook group for this project; that was your idea. What I did say and you might have misunderstood was that a Facebook cause would have been better than an Imminst project page, or perhaps you might have thought that linking the project on Facebook groups and causes meant that you first needed to create a Facebook group for the project.

I hope that's clearer. i proposed you to create the facebook group and handle facebook if you prefer. I don't know if i can make you the owner of the group? especially if you think it is particularly touchy. There's no need to have a Facebook group for this project.

I don't think it's worth contacting rich people for a project this small.

Are you saying that Nason should have first applied for a research grant at mainstream organizations?

I never said that I wanted a Facebook group for this project; that was your idea (...) There's no need to have a Facebook group for this project.

oh. perhaps i misunderstood. I received this PM from you (doesn't seem confidential):

Since you seem to be doing a good job at linking Live Aid on Facebook groups and causes, would you be interested in doing the same for the Laser Ablation of Lipofuscin project? If you're interested, you might want to use the red laser image with the links (I can crop it out of Imminst's larger image if you need me to

i then tried to help but appearently not, sorry: each time i did somthg you told me to redo things differently ;-) That's why i'm proposing that you handle facebook

You should post it to that group's Board and Wall as well and you might want to use the laser image since its more eye catching.

I won't have internet+time to do the board and wall (travelling for some days; plus the text wouldn't have been modifyable). If you ever want me to modify the text and/or image of the facebook *group*, PM me precisely the right image url and the right text so that i can do it at once, without misunderstanding; thank you.

Are you saying that Nason should have first applied for a research grant at mainstream organizations?

If he is in a research environment or can be, i think he could. What do other people doing research think?

It seems you misunderstand my PM. While it might make sense to create a group for Live Aid since the content is just informational, I didn't think you'd create one for this project since there's no way to donate directly from a group page.

Anyway, I'll see if I can find the time to post links to the project page on the rest of the relevant Facebook groups and causes.

Are you saying that Nason should have first applied for a research grant at mainstream organizations?

To answer my own question, Nason has stated that this wouldn't be a good idea from an IP standpoint.

Total as of midday Tuesday August 11th: $3238.53

This is what has settled into the Imminst bank account. There is a few hundred more waiting to settle. I don't count donations as they come into google checkout because a few of them get rejected for various reasons.

If the 30 for 30 is successful, I project we will have over $5,000 in donations by the end of Friday. End of fundraising is Monday the 17th (end of the day), then we will put Nason to work and we will find out some very interesting things about lipofuscin and aging.

After I posted the following to a few Facebook groups on their Discussion Board, Wall, and Links section:

New funding initiative against aging: Laser Research Grant

The Immortality Institute has a new initiative funding the SENS Foundation in its fight against aging. The Institute will match every contribution up to $8,000 until August 17th for the study of laser ablation of lipofuscin—research that will be conducted by Nason Schooler at the SENS Foundation Research Center. Learn more about this initiative at http://www.imminst.o...-research-grant.

I got the following warning from Facebook:

Warning! Your account could be disabled.

You are using this feature to spam other users. Continued misuse of Facebook's features will result in your account being disabled. If you have any questions or concerns, you can visit our FAQ page.

So, someone might want to take over from me and post the announcement in groups and causes that doesn't have it yet.

I posted the announcement in the following groups:

It's possible that Facebook has some sort of automatic spam detection feature that flags a message as spam if you post the same message to multiple groups in a very short period of time. It might be safer to wait one hour or so before posting identical messages.
