Just a quick question, what about Methylphenidate based meds, Ritalin, Concerta, Focalin etc.?

They do affect dopamine, though in an entirely different way (SNRI vs DRA). Is there any chance of excitotxicity of mixing Ritalin and Piracetam?

I wanted to highlight this question, which I just liberated from the moderation queue.

I'm also wondering if anyone knows of any research substantiating the potential for toxicity; most of this thread is speculative and unreferenced, and it seems like a pretty important question, given the popularity of these two substances.

I haven't taken any adderall or ritalin with my Piracetam, but I frequently take Piracetam along with coffee, tea, or stress. In me the Piracetam seems to be at least a little anxiolytic, that is I feel less stressed/anxious when combined with a stress inducing situation or chemical (coffee really gets me wired). Now Piracetam may have, probably does have, several mechanisms of action, but in that I feel calmer from some GABAergic-type effects, maybe it is neuroprotective rather than increasing neurotoxicity. I like to see some more science behind the theory that piracetam might contribute to adderall neurotoxicity, but I'm really ready for some more user experiences to inform the discussion... So if anyone has some Adderall, Ritalin or other stimulant around and some Piracetam also, please take them together and tell us how you feel.

I take Concerta (extended release methylphenidate) for ADHD on most weekdays every month, and I've been on and off daily piracetam recently. (Whether or not I'm on piracetam at any given time depends on whether or not I've filled capsules with it recently. I can't STAND that horrible taste, so I don't take it when I have no capsules.)

Monday's dose of Concerta often feels a bit too strong, then Tuesday, Wednesday, and usually Thursday feel like the perfect dose. But some Thursdays and many Fridays, the dose feels a bit too low. I don't notice any difference in tolerance whatsoever between when I take piracetam now, when I don't take piracetam now, or before I ever took the piracetam. If piracetam has any effect on methylphenidate tolerance at all, I don't notice it. Maybe it would have an effect on someone who took the methylphenidate every day.

The only interaction I've ever noticed between methylphenidate and piracetam is that piracetam potentiates the wakefulness-promoting properties of methylphenidate.

so what about 5mg aderral (very low dose), 3g daily piracetam, and then LOW dose huperzine A-50mcg

we should see some increased NMDA firing but also a slight decrease du to Hup A blocking it... if all taken in the AM at such low dose should be fine by PM??

When I took concerta and piracetam together I felt like I was going to die, literally. From poisoning . In my opinion amphetamines are no good for intelligence building, just another for of strong coffee , both of witch I have quit and feel i fantastic

Go for it. It's good.

you have no idea what you're talking about.

piracetam will turn the afterburners on for your NMDA receptors. amphetamine elicits glutamate release. prolonged calcium influx through NMDA recetors = NEUROTOXICITY.

if you're interested in some insane tolerance fast, then try it.

Piracetam is an allosteric modulator of the NMDA and, to a lesser extent, the AMPA receptors.

This means it would actually PREVENT excitotoxicty.

I am so confused. One says it is dangerous and another, right above, says it is actually preventing toxicity. I am getting adderall tomorrow. I hope. If my girl doesn't fall through. I hope she doesn't. I will try Aniracetam and Piracetam with them. I'll let you know how it goes. I had it with 5-HTP once. Was fun. Made the experience less edgy but cause more mental stress (headache that came and left).

In my experience ,piracetam potentiate everything including exercise,it can give me glutamate overexciting symptom ,if take too much Piracetam ,by exercise induce huge release in glutamate .
Color contrast popup immediately fallow by tingling symptom LOL ,so safe substance.

I take adderall 20mg XR + 5mg IR + 30mg Vyvanse every day, and have combined it with Piracetam for about two weeks. I have no "control experience" of taking Piracetam without Adderall, but I can say that the combination only produced one noticeable side effect -- a proclivity towards anger.

I attribute this to the subjective experience of life being more intense.

Other than the anger, Piracetam was an overall beneficial nootropic for me. I especially enjoyed the heightened visuals (which subsided after a few days), the subjective feeling of creativity and playfulness it inspired, and the enhancement of visual memories.

I cannot comment on the neuroscience of combining low-dose amphetamines with Piracetam, but suspect that it's not an issue at therapeutic doses. However, I have erred on the side of caution, taking smaller-than-normal doses of Piracetam. A typical dose for me is no larger than 2g, in comparison with the typical 4.8g daily dose that is often referenced as a standard.

This is also an issue I'm interested in and have found no definitive answers from constant searching. I have heard differing accounts. Either
1. There is no harm done combining racetams with adderall
2. There is much harm done in neurotoxicity or excitotoxicity
3. Racetams actually helps to protect the brain from any negative effects from adderall/amphetamines

From my experience, when I take 5mg of adderall and wait a few hours and take 2g of piracetam, it will "lift" the effects back up after a few hours of decaying. While adderall gives you the focus and energy, piracetam will give you the "boost" to actually absorb and understand the information. Otherwise, I have been careful to combine racetams with drugs such as alcohol or caffeine because of its ability to boost their effects.

Does anyone have anymore insight on the combination?

I took 20 grams of piracetam yesterday and 20 grams this morning. I feel good, but not like I am on top of the world. I had my final english exam and boy was I glad I took it. I felt good but not good enough to keep me distracted on the way I feel. It was so subtle, yet very effective. I wrote about 4 pages and then I realized I made a mistake. I had to write a whole new essay, however, had I not taken Pira I would of probably just left. It made me want to tackle the challenge. I didn't even think about it I just switched over and did it. It made me think of a mountain more as a mole hill. Thinking maybe to take another 20 grams ? I'll see how it goes.

p.s. No headaches at all.

I strongly suspect this is caused by glutamate deficiency, not excitotoxicity. I experienced the negative effects of combining amphetamines and piracetam noted in this thread, but felt a lot better after a single day off the amphetamines. That sounds a lot more like a neurotransmitter deficiency than brain damage.

After reading this thread about supplementing glutamine and calcium with piracetam, I picked some up at GNC and have noticed a dramatic recovery after taking 10-15g of glutamine today. WebMD says not to take more than 40g in a day.

Concerta is methylphenidate, not an amphetamine.

how is taking piracetam with adderall/amphetamines different to just taking adderall/amphetamines or just piracetam?
Is it a whole new experience? Different benefits?

After I upped the dose of Piracetam I found it does not mix well with Adderall. Got a tingly feeling in my eyebrows that I don't get from either of the two meds. I also felt extremely sedated like I had just taken too much Nyquil The feeling went away within a day or so and I have since stopped mixing the two. I wish more research would be published on this, until then, it's best to avoid the combo.

Maybe I'll try it some day. For now I have scraped the racetams and kept the Adderall.

Bumping this in hopes of clarifying something that's been nagging at me.

Last year (August/September) I tried MDMA a couple of times, both with Piracetam. It was about that time that I fell into a pretty nasty bout of depression/exacerbated HPPD symptoms which I still haven't fully pulled out of. I can't really nail down a solid answer and it's bothering me some.

I combined 120mg pure MDMA with 3-4g piracetam each time. Reckless, I know. I was over-confident and caught up in the mystique of piracetam as a wonder drug, along with having seen the combo recommended throughout the web as a way to safely enhance a roll and even prevent damage. After that second roll I prettty much found myself in an MDMA hangover that didn't really seem to end; lost a lot of the positive progress I'd made in life with piracetam (exercise, reading, general positive outlook) and relapsed into a negative depressed heap.

I'll spare you the nitty gritty, I really just wanna know if it was just a poor response to MDMA that wasn't significantly impacted by the piracetam or if the piracetam potentiated the effects of the MDMA to the extent of causing extreme excitotoxicity or something. The rolls were incredibly enjoyable and not negative in any sense. My friend and I seemed pretty on par as far as the effects and the immediate hangover felt, and he hadn't taken piracetam. It's kind of frustrating to see that the two most commonly expressed views on the matter are complete opposites (it's fine and possibly neuroprotective!/it's incredibly dangerous and will induce excitotoxicity!)

Cheers.

For anyone wondering about stimulant + piracetam combination toxicity, please read these comments. Do be aware that "MisterYouAreSoDumb" distributes nootropics so there is probably some bias. I don't know if he was a distributor at the time of the posting. The post seems sound though, and he generally makes really good and solid posts.

The thought that piracetam increases the toxicity of stimulants has no proof other than wild speculation, and, based on things it has been trialed for (Alzheimer's especially), it should REDUCE nmda toxicity if anything.

It doesn't appear to just increase Ca influx willy-nilly.
