I just got a bottle of the stuff from a big company whose name starts with S. It was 300mg in a dark colored caplet. I tried one cap a day for 3 days and noticed the following symptoms. Instead of the brain fog going away, I got more of it. My mood got lower and lower and became depressed. After 3 days I had lethargy and could hardly make myself do anything plus had depression. I had to take my creatine plus trehalose to get back into a reasonable mood. After a couple days off I'm back to my old self.

Is this a side effect you have to work through? Am I an unusual responder or could it be something else I take? I take a big stack with lots of other herbs, fish oil and piractetam every day. Also b complex and a little alcar, ala and benfotiamine.

I know someone on this board is very enthused about it. It's supposed to be good for the health and improve cognition. Here is what wikipedia says:

In multiple clinical trials of patients with elevated cholesterol and triglycerides, total and LDL cholesterol were decreased by 12%, triglycerides decreased by 18%, and HDL cholesterol was increased by 9%

I thought I remember pantethine effects cortisol in some way. Might point you in the right direction to look into it.

Here is a recent review:
http://www.elitmed.h...yelven-3999.pdf

Looks very good for lipids in high dose. But then improvement in lipids but drugs does not necessarily mean clinical improvement, depending on how this is done and other effects of the drugs, as some recent effective LDL and HDL but clinical outcome failures drugs have demonstrated.

Lots of other effects also. Including many unclear CNS ones. Not sure that there are even any long-term animal data regarding its effects, so I would be very cautious.

I feel kind of lethargic and down today so I'm wondering now if the pantethine did it or not. But then again this may be an after effect since it was just a few days ago I quit taking it. I think I'll see how I feel over the next few days and possibly try it again 2 caps a day. If the bad effects come back I'll know to avoid it.

All the things I read including medical studies said only good things about it.

I've noticed with one or two other supps that at first I had a bad reaction but when I tried it again it was ok. Leutine was one of those. It gave me nausea at first but now I tolerate it fine.

This thread reminds me -- I have an unopened bottle of Now Foods double-strength (600 mg) pantethine from earlier this year that I need to use up.

This is totally subjective but I seem to have better overall skin tone when I take pantethine. I don't ever recall having any side effects
from the stuff. I also take plain old pantothenic acid (B-5 caps, Twinlab brand) every day so maybe that helps too. I could use all the help
I can get in the skin care department. :)
