I always thought methionine was a bad idea because of this:

You'll see that homocysteine gets converted directly to methionine by betanine/TMG and by methylfolate. I don't think it's a good idea to clog that system. Indeed, someone posted a study or to showing increased HC levels from methionine supplementation.

Oh dear. I missed the debate!

I'm doing better with the Methylation mixture doc prescribed, but as outlined in another post I've made, I do still have downtime.

I tried SAM-e the other day @400mg and 800mg but no effect. It gave a slight feeling of stimulation but no mood boost.
What would one ascertain from such a result? Do you keep taking it long term because I took it 3 days straight and just got that jittery feeling (like I'd just downed some expresso's - I never drink caffeine anymore by the way). It was a suprise to me because I thought it would feel more serotonigenic than dopaminergic but this seems to be the only effect I get from it. So at this present moment it's not going to be worth the money for me.

Even if this post is a bit old, I still want to comment on SAM-e:
200mg is way too little for an undermethylator (you will probably not notice anything). If you do not notice any effect after taking 800mg for one week, you should increase to 1200mg, etc. 1600mg is also OK for undermethylators, but the tolerated dose is trial and error (introduce carefully, and wait one week until the next increase).
It will take months for significant improvement.  Also, consider other nutrients for undermethylators helping the methylation/methionine cycle, both for keeping the natural production of SAM-e and conversion from Homocysteine in order, etc.
I know this topic does not cover longevity, but keeping in mind that this is the primary purpose of this site: Undermethylation is increasing chances of developing cancer and also early aging. If you want to live "forever," you do not want to be severely undermethylated because most people develop cancer at one point or another (and you do not want it to be too soon). I can post references/links to scientific evidence later. Likewise, overmethylation often leads to high Homocysteine which increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases. You can reduce risks with the appropriate supplementation.

Those who are suggesting TMG, please note that it increases LDL cholesterol.  I have high LDL and am undermethylator.  I can't take TMG.

Wanted to follow up on this thread.  I am still not sure what other nutrients to take with SAM-e for undermethylation, which I have. I read somewhere that supplementing with methylfolate can make matters worse.  See this article as an example. Basically, higher folate amount actually reduces methyl and also turns on serotonin update, which leads to severely low serotonin levels and mood issues.  So is it really safe to take methylfolate or even other active forms of folate, with SAM-e?
