Concept:For those who can't go to the Conference 2010, or other conferences, is there a way to participate remotely?
To pay say 10$ to imminst, to have an access for one day to view the conference online, while it is happening, and to post say two questions max per day on a chatbox that is monitored by someone present at the conference?
Pros & cons:
One the one hand it looks great, for more people to participate. (There was even recently a fully virtual conference, I remember; perhaps the concept was a bit too new to be followed by many, and it is not as solemn nor as fruitful as a real conference where speakers travel and meet together).
On the other hand, there are some constrains: one would need to film the conference (what happens if the filming or the connecting system doesn't work?), one would need to filter the questions asked from the internet (frustrations as only one or two questions might be asked), and less persons might go to the real conference and meet the real speakers
Tool:
Are you aware of a tool that would readily exist for this?

We have discussed the option of opening the round table meeting for online participants. The lectures will be recorded but a live broadcast will probably not happen. The round table may be done through skype.

For future conferences, if we can get paid-remote-presence to work, on the paper it looks good in terms of funding:
- imagine 200 persons paying 25$ (for two days): that is 5 000$. Imminst is supposed to have many more members than that, we but we would have to see how many do participate.
- once the system works, we would need to arrange with every big life-extension meeting that exists to launch the system for imminst's sponsored research.
- it would draw a lot more persons to conferences and spread the cause. Anyone interested could apply, not only people from imminst

I'm not sure if anyone attending has the ability to stream live to Ustream as Justin did for Convergence08?

Other than that I'm not sure if we'd be able to set up something like: http://telexlr8.word....com/teleplace/

Barring that we could ask our Ustream viewers to donate $10 to help cover the costs of what will be put up.

You mean, donate $10 aside, or having to give 10$ in order to view? I would likely not donate for the first option (or once in a while), but I would donate in the second option. Clearly, the price has to be relatively cheap otherwise people will organise some free viewing otherwise

Teleplace seems like a multiuser skype, it could be nice to organize conferences throughout the world. Does it have the payment feature?

Anyone?
