People who know me know I grew up on a farm way out in the country. I was a couple decades behind the times, listening to country music, farming, hunting, and fishing. Here is one of the songs I grew up listening to. It is simple country music but it of course strikes an emotional chord with me because of my background, and it also has a surprisingly immortalist theme:

Once was a thought inside my head
Fore I'd reach thirty I'd be dead
Now somehow on and on I go-o-o
I keep on rolling with the flow

Folks said that I would change my mind
I'd straighten up and do just fine
Ahh, but I still love rock and ro-o-oll
I keep on rolling with the flow

While guys my age are raisin' kids
I'm raising hell just like I did
I've got a lot of crazy friends
And they forgive me of my sins

Some might be calling me a bum
But I'm still out there having fun
And Jesus loves me, yes, I kno-o-ow
So, I keep on rolling with the flow
(keep on rolling with the flow)

While guys my age are raisin' kids
But I'm raising hell just like I did
I've got a lot of crazy friends
And they forgive me of my sins

Can't take it with you when you're gone
But I want enough to get there on
And I ain't ever growing o-o-old
So, I keep on rolling with the flow

(keep on rolling with the flow)

I ain't ever growing o-o-old
If I keep on rolling with the flow

(Keep on rolling, keep on rolling)

I ain't ever growing old! I just keep on rolling with the flow!

I think this is the perfect song to be the movement for indefinite Life Extentions theme song!

As a kind of fork from the general music collection I would be interested in music you know that can be easily interpreted to have life extension context. Of course there are not a lot of songs/music pieces explicitely adressing life extension, but e.g. there is a substantial amount of future themed music that could fit into life extension.

To give an example of what I mean - I think this song is a good match:

If you know more music that fits into this kind of category (or to life extension in another sense) feel free to share it. No limits to style implied here.

It could use a subtitle somewhere with something like:

I collect songs like that here. Some of them are directly related, many of them indirectly, some of them more indirectly than others. I think a lot of Michael Jackson made it in there back when he died out of homage to his death, and in part as a reminder, to me at least, of the awesome creative forces that death is destroying.

You didn't put the song "forever young" by Alphaville in it?

A song about taking action now - The Future Is Now by Project Pitchfork. Relevant for any important cause. "There is no future, the future is now."

Ewig by :Wumpscut: about how none of us last forever and that all that is left of us at the end is dust. About death "Wir sind nicht ewig" but also makes you think about what is lost when you die:

A joyful song simply about being alive. :)

My choices may not be great but I've had a go.

Jim Croce here wrote this hauntingly soul resonating song about time and then died a few years later at the age of 30. His pilot ran three miles, for some reason, to the airport after a concert that Jim put on, and then crashed into a pecan tree at the end of the runway and killed everybody.

In this video here are some of Jims home movies put to the song. The totality of this song and video screams stop the carnage to me. My grandparents farm, the only place Ive been able to go back to periodically through out my entire life, a staple of my life, looks a lot like the farm in this video.

One of the lines is, "youre the one I want to go through time with." I can see the metaphor that its a lot like saying, "If I had to walk the green mile then I would want to walk it with you." Life is like a green mile, a short, bittersweet walk to your death where you have to try to soak everything up for what its worth quickly.

A bit along the same line, but also very different. Life is about overcoming all sorts of challenges, some of which we seek deliberately. If you want to live to the max, life almost reaches death. Could this be paradoxical to wanting to live forever, or at least for a very long time? I don't think so!

Or as the lead singer of Yes introduced this song at a concert I did attend some time ago:
"This is a song about mountain climbing, which is very dangerous.... in life, we all have mountains to cross"

I can't yet listen to the song cos I'm at work. I do love your metaphor for the green mile though. Are your grandparents still alive? If so you are lucky. Two grandfathers I never knew and both my grandmothers have died.

They are, yes. They are under siege by aging right now. They havent been taken to the dungeons yet (old folks home), they may die in the fight before they are taken off, or we may just be able to put down the assault before that. It feels like, and as horrifying as this really:

"If I would die, what would you do?" "I would not let you die!" Translation of he first German lines in the following clip.

Both songs are from this movie: Originally in German, but there is an English version also. It's quite a good movie!

I'm sorry to hear that and I know the feeling. My parents though not to old are beginning to show the effects of aging. I am conscious of how quick time goes. The words to that Time In A Bottle song are dead on.

Shame we can't get a charity compilation together to raise money/awareness for the cause like that "Electronic Saviours: Industrial Music To Cure Cancer" compilation a while back or the "Hope" compilation for the Sophie Lancaster Foundation. Another far-fetched thought I'm guessing. :)

A classic song about how we never have the time to tell our loved ones how we feel until it's too late and aging takes them. So sad but so true:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGDA0Hecw1k

Bullet by Covenant is a more upbeat song about how time slips away. This one has lyrics on the video:

I've always associated the Halo theme with immortality. The melody is reminiscent of religious choir telling of something reserved for the gods, and something adventurous and mysterious. Halo takes place in the stars, and I feel as though that immortality will eventually allow us to really reach the stars and beyond.

One day I want to stand on the deck of a starship and look into the great beyond.

I think there's a very similar thread to this in Townhall. Would it not be a good idea to merge them?
