It seems as though even without PEMT, there is a little benefit from a phospholipid created by DMAE in an older study. PEMT knock out mice were fed a choline deficient diet and some were given DMAE. Those given DMAE had slightly reduced liver failure. Therefore, there is some benefit to just taking DMAE on a choline deficient diet even without PEMT, though it is slight and nowhere in comparison to getting proper choline in the diet.
