The SENS Foundation Academic Initiative is scheduled to award up to $30,000 in materials grants in 2012. These grants will be available exclusively to undergraduate, graduate, and medical students, and can be applied to the cost of materials on aging- and rejuvenation-related research projects. These grants are largely intended to help students learn and develop their research and leadership skills. We don't expect you to cure aging as an undergrad -- rather, we want to help you get started on the path to a career in SENS-related research. Hence, simple and straightforward "introductory-level" projects will receive full consideration.
You can apply for a grant at any time at http://sens.org/ai/awards/grants There may be a high level of competition for these grants next year, so I encourage everyone to apply sooner rather than later.
On a related note, the Academic Initiative's website should implement a comprehensive update over the next week or so. That may change the URL for our grant application, but the old URL should redirect you to the new application page. Otherwise, you will be able to find the application in the new site's "Get Involved" section.
If you have any questions, you can email me directly at daniel dot kimbel at sens dot org.
