Dr. Coe's site is specifically tailored to those dealing with Kidney stones. They recommend a lower Sodium diet for the stone prone, but also feel it could be good for others. It is also balanced by Potassium and Calcium intake, but beyond me to try to describe it.

1 tsp of Baking Soda has about 1200 mg of Sodium.

This is incorrect.

That same site on this page:

http://kidneystones....nes-nutrition/

Emphasizes the difference between sodium bicarbonate and sodium chloride. They are not the same thing and do not have the same function or mechanism of action when it comes to kidney stones.

It is key because sodium chloride strongly controls urine calcium and therefore the risk of kidney stones.

Likewise, it is key because high intakes can cause loss of bone mineral and raise blood pressure in some people.

I say sodium chloride because other sodium salts, like sodium bicarbonate, do not behave exactly as sodium chloride does.

In fact:

Sodium bicarbonate can prevent the formation of uric acid kidney stones and can help dissolve existing uric acid stones.

Nate, Thanks for correcting me. I appreciate that you took the time! I tried to read from your first linked page, but the link does not work.
