I was looking at Green Pastures product test data. I was surprised to see that most of the vitamin D in their cod liver oil is D2. They ask not to inquire about the test results so I've decided to do it here.

Is there anything better about D2 in FCLO than synthetic D2? Where does it originate? Phytoplankton perhaps?

Thanks,
Chupo

I have this same question. From where is the vitamin D2 coming?

In my case, I actually did ask contact Green Pastures, but essentially received a non-answer.

Fermented cod liver oil looks like such an interesting product. Just wish I could get more information on it.

It seems Green Pastures has taken down their analysis page but the Wayback Machine still has it: https://web.archive....tData/index.cfm

It's been many years, if not a decade since I posted this and still, there doesn't seem to be any info about the form of vitamin D in cod liver oil aside from the analyses Green Pastures had done on their own fermented cod liver oil.

In 2011, Gary Taubes posted a blood test where his vitamin D levels were checked. His D2 was twice as high as his D3 levels - 42 ng/mL and 21 ng/mL respectively. I remember it was discussed in the comments at the time and Mr. Taubes said he didn't supplement with D2 at all. So, my guess is that it was likely from cod liver oil. I remember him saying he took cod liver oil but don't quote me on that. It was a long time ago and the comments don't appear to have been archived along with the post.

Does anyone have any info about D2 in cod liver oil? Google is not what it once was so there might be something I'm just not finding.
