Oxford Circus sounds fine, anything but Starbux though, please.... I'll be in that area, coincidentally, so I'll keep an eye out something less corporate, if that's ok.

Hiya CoffeeAHolic, I'm relatively new here too, look forward to meet ups.

Sounds good.

Apologies for my absence after suggesting a get together... got busy and didn't even get a chance to get into Oxford circus to find a decent, quiet cafe to meet peeps.
Ok, wondering if Wednesdays is good for most? Late afternoons is good for me, but I can manage early evenings too. Most days of the week that's also true.

Well for me morning or early afternoon works best, otherwise late evening.

I am going to this...

I would suggest that anyone else interested in meeting up could come along. Afterwards the group goes to the pub, so could chat there.

Freshly-minted member here...

I can see it's been quite some time since anyone posted on this thread but I would certainly like to meet up for a coffee one morning or a glass or four of healthy red wine in the evening.

4 glasses of wine? You have a high tolerance for alcohol, not sure I could keep up!

As a Scot I am genetically adapted for copious amounts of alcohol.

Keep in mind though, that as I am from the civilised east coast I do like the good stuff paced over the evening unlike west coasters who tend to bolt pints of buckie* doing lines of crystal meth from the boobage of a crack <lady of the night>

*Colloquial name for buckfast tonic wine. Basically, it's brain damage fluid made by monks, like a post apocalyptic jagermeister drunk by satan himself.

  • Would you like to live to experience, not only the year 2025, but also 2075, 2125, and beyond?
This informal meetup is being organised by Didier Coeurnelle, taking advantage of the fact that many London Futurists will be in central London for the Anticipating 2025 event this weekend.
Didier is co-chair of HEALES, the Healthy Life Extension Society, which was founded in Brussels.
    Didier writes:
At the moment, there is little that people can do to significantly increase their healthy life expectancy. But futurists are aware this could change in the not-too-distant future. The plan for this gathering is to informally discuss questions related to longevity, such as:
    • Recent developments around the companies Calico, Human Longevity Inc, and In Silico Medicine Inc
    • Information about recent scientific progress
    • How to convince your favourite politicians that they should make life extension a priority
    • How to take advantage of the increasing popular press interest in healthy life extension
    • Is popularizing radical ideas related to longevity (for example use of the "I" word) (*) a good or bad idea?
    Posted Image
To misquote John F Kennedy: Do not ask yourself how chance and genetic fate can make your life longer; ask yourself what you could do to support science for life extension.
This meetup is taking place in the Marlborough Arms pub, which is located a short walk from Birkbeck College. A number of tables on the right hand side of the main room of the pub have been reserved for London Futurists.
There is no charge to attend this meetup. Since the meetup is taking place in a pub, attendees will probably want to purchase drink (and/or food) as the evening progresses.
Time: Saturday, March 22, 6 pm to 8 pm (and beyond)
    (*) "Immortality"

I can't make it to London in a night, but I would love to hear what some people have to say at this event. If someone could go to this with a journalistic approach and report back with anything profound or even not so profound that would be awesome. Youtube videos, audio clips, or just anecdotes. All or any would be appreciated.

cheers

I pinched some fries of Aubrey and got dragged into a futurist discussion against my better judgement. I usually find pubs to noisy for meaningful conversation, but I witnessed at least four relevant networking links being made around me... this rather of inspired me to do a bit more in London.

I was actually at the informal meeting at the Malborough Arms, unfortunately tickets had sold out for the first day event at Birkbeck! I met some very interesting folks as well!

Hello Londoners!

For anyone interested - there's a conference called 'the Future of Healthy Ageing' taking place at Birkbeck College on 26/04/2014.
The focus of the event will be developments in the field of human life extension; more specifically preventative and regenerative medicine, computerised health screening and the bio-markers of ageing. The event will cost 5 pounds, if your interested check out the event page on Meetup for further details:
