Try TDCS, binaural beats (holosync), calea zakatechichi (on weekends), afobazol, first digital drug binaural beats, tenoten.
Try also bupropion. As already said chemicals alone can not help - you should create a mental barrier around your mind and body to influence your state. Your hyppocampus is almost dead. To reanimate it, you should take bacopa and do the mentioned mental techniques.

I forgot to mention turmeric (or curcumin) with black pepper in some kind of oil (i use coconut oil but you can use whatever you wish) - although, it's better for depression, it may exaggerbate anxiety in some people - but it may be useful for others. it's cheap and has a lot of others health benefits.

True....I take alot of whole turmeric root powder capsules...it can help some people with anxiety because it helps the brain deal with stress.

Will warm milk work also to improve assimilation of turmeric?
How much pepper do you add say to a half teaspoon?
I will try to add turmeric but it is hard on my digestive system as most spices.

I'm curious to see if I have some sort of overactive or overly sensitive gaba system. I am a very even keeled, laidback fellow. It takes very extreme conditions to invoke anxiety in me, far beyond the norm.

Sounds great, doesn't it? Except for the fact that I have very low motivation. Having zero sense of urgency to do things causes problems.

So far, I've been using stimulants. This would increase dopamine, and indirectly inhibit gaba. However, stimulants create a host of issues.

Anyway, I don't have insurance now, so internet purchased supps and herbs are my main source.

Amphetamine releases gaba actually :).

it's best to take it with food, not on empty stomach. I use 4:1 ratio (turmeric: black pepper), but you can add less or more if you like. I dunno about warm milk - it has some fat, so it could help. You can try both and see if there is any difference in effect. I felt the effect right away (or maybe after two or three days), so you can try different combinations every week or so.

Thanks hippocampus. Do you pre mix turmeric with oil and take a dose or put in food?

You can also take your turmeric with a glass of red wine, the alcohol makes a nice solvent to help your body absorb it.

I make "turmeric butter": turmeric + black pepper + coconut oil, I make about 0,5 kg at once and then take a teaspoon of eat every day. But you may have to check your lipids, because coconut oil may be bad for cardiovascular health (there are different opinions and too little studies).

This sounds like a crazy idea but Yohimbine can be anxiolytic: http://www.biopsychiatry.com/yohimbine/research.html

The Pharmacology of Yohimbine is huge. From Wikipedia:

Yohimbine has high affinity for the α2-adrenergic receptor, moderate affinity for the α1-adrenergic, 5-HT1A, 5-HT1B, 5-HT1D, 5-HT1F, 5-HT2B, and D2 receptors, and weak affinity for the 5-HT1E, 5-HT2A, 5-HT5A, 5-HT7, and D3 receptors. It behaves as an antagonist at α1-adrenergic, α2-adrenergic, 5-HT1B, 5-HT1D, 5-HT2A, 5-HT2B, and D2, and as a partial agonist at 5-HT1A. Its intrinsic activities at the other sites listed are unclear/unknown, but it is probably mostly antagonistic at them.

In my experience the first days Yohimbine increases anxiety/fear but after some adaptation it gives me confidence, increased alertness and mood. I stopped my trial with Yohimbine because I obtained a Vyvanse (d-amphetamine) prescription and was crazy to see the effects of amphetamine. Unfortunately amphetamine was a huge disappointment. After the euphoria It made me paranoid, insomniac, depressed and lowered my immune system. Now I'm with a flu. After I recover I will restart Yohimbine.

Just make sure you get pure Yohimbine HCL and not a standardized Yohimbe bark extract. The other alkaloids in Yohimbe bark cause intense side effects and can even cause heart damage. I shudder everytime I pick up an "energy blend" or "sexual enhancer" that says "Yohimbine" on the front, but on the back label it says "Yohimbe Bark Extract (standardized for 2% yohimbine)". Of the 3 times I've tried it, I've had 3 terrible experiences. Nausea, tachycardia, sweating, and skin flushing.

However, the one time that I tried pure Yohimbine HCL, it worked really well as a clean feeling stimulant.

Turmeric is incredible! It restored my serotonin level to normal level within 2 days. Acts like antidepressant and promotes longevity.
I have not found that it has bitter taste. It almost tasteless. Why do people take it with oil?

How do you know it restored serotonin? I did not know it worked for that.
How much and how do you take it?
Oil is for better absorption.

Hello ScienceGuy, and thank you very much for your great work in this forum... It's a great health for all of us who are struggling with anxiety, to have all those information about downregulation of GABA receptors etc.

I actually have a small question for you, and i would be very thankful if you spent some time answering to me!
I am currently on an escitalopram treatment (20mg), which helps me a lot with my anxiety issues, but doesn't seem to take the edge off of them, so boosting serotonin is not an issue for me... I also have a proven problem with anxiolytics which also affect dopamine, because they seem to make my anxiety worse in a way...

So, my question is this: which of all those "anxiolytics" that you mention help with anxiety issues by affecting only glutamate receptors, without increasing serotonin or dopamine??

I'm looking forward for your answer, or anyone else's in this forum that does know... Keep up the good job!!

I read somewhere on this site or other that it is "seratonergic". I just feel energy from it, heart beat increase and like "bad thoughts" are blocked. I don't know if it is associated with seratonin but i feel like i get complete treatement from the following: 1.25 mg of selegiline two times per week and two teaspoons of turmeric per day (for turmeric i make a break of one day fater each two days of taking it, otherwise heartbeat becomes too strong). So this complete set of chemicals makes me entirely happy. I do not want to take any centrophenoxine, bacopa and L-theanine or phenibut any more since i just don't feel any need in them. I have a feeling that selegiline + turmeric act like an expensive bupropion but with much more benefits for health provided by turmeric. Turmeric definitely boosts creativity and focus, i.e. it is a natural nootropic. Because i was a smoker for many years I had all the consequences of nicotin withdrawal but with selegiline and turmeric I do not feel like any desire to smoke. And folks previously I wrote about Calea Zakatechichi - I changed my opinion of it on negative one - it makes you sleepy after several days of taking it and does not allow you to be productive - so don't buy it.
Pluses of turmeric:
anti-diabetes feature
anti-cancer feature
anti-Alzgeimer feature
restoration of heart musle
anti-inflammatory feature
strengething of immune system
anti-mutation feature
It makes you feel younger. Probably may cause increase of blood pressure, so it would be good to supplement it with fish oil and magnesium. Magnesium acetate can be obtained in the kitchen from magnesium sulfate using baking soda and apple cider vinegar (non-filtered) with all benefits of vitamins and proteins contained in apple vinegar.
I also listen to lifeflow meditation and do TDCS once per week. I can now refuse from TDCS since lifeflow meditation does the same work. And I still keep TDCS and phenibut for occasions of stress when i need to restore spoiled mood immediately. Previously I used sigarettes. Now i take portion of phenibut and if i have time - TDCS.

Thanks Dan Brown.
I will try to take turmeric. The problem is that spices are hard on my bowels.

I don't know about lifeflow
meditation and TDCS.

@dan brown: I also experienced much lower desire for nicotine when I first used turmeric. It lasted for whole month and I stopped using snus at that time, almost without effort.

Interesting you mention Yohimbine becasue I too am currently having great success with it. But I can't take it on its own as it makes me edgy and irritable.

Alongside my SSRI though and this combination truly kicks ass. I have my life back thanks to this herb.

Lexapro nails a lot of my core symptons but leaves me apathetic, lazy, unmotivated, uninterested in others and disconnected. Since adding Yohimbine all of these negative effects have subsided.

The end of the second week on turmeric. It still keeps the effect of energizing and blocking negative thoughts and depression. No tolerance noticed. I have given up taking any other chemicals - just no need in them. I am going to continue use of turmeric, linseed oil, olive oil with high polyphenols, magnesium acetate, Phenibut (stress situations) and occasionally bacopa and selegiline. MB developed tolerance effect and is no longer a good helper.

You are right. Today I have started to feel tolerance to turmeric. I feel a kind of sad after a wierd night dream which i can't forget and negative thoughts appear though the body still feels well. Somehow paradoxal - the mood is sad but the body feels good.

Hi ScienceGuy,

I'm trying to make sense of the fact that you advocate theanine because it

DOES NOT function as a GABA RECEPTOR AGONIST but UPREGULATES THE PRODUCTION OF GABA within the brain

and yet you proscribe (not prescribe ;) ) picamilon (and GABA itself but I suppose we can disregard that as a useful supplement anyway), without, AFAICS, any specific reasons given or studies cited.

You seem to be implying that directly adding GABA to the brain causes GABA receptor agonism, while taking a substance which increases endogenous GABA production does not... do I have that right?

God atleast i dont have that weird typing issue here anymore.

What i said was that amphetamine with certain things like memantine and small regular breaks can be made sustainable; look up nmda antagonists and tolerance its been discussed on plenty of fora.

Seriously, there cant be anything behaviorally and physically worse than using amph for anxiety.Posted Image

not really... many find stimulants the most effective for social anxiety, you can find a ton of anecdotes on social anxiety support.

I have used low dose amphetamine with magnesium, vit B and D for a month or two. It really does work for social anxiety... It makes me talkative, confident, etc.
