I am going to begin a powerful juice fast, sort of a la mode of Dr.Mercola. I am not talking about oranges. I am talking about a variety of dozens of herbs, spices, vegetables, and fruit. And I mean to drink about a gallon a day. I am also going to take about 3 ounces at least of coconut, olive, and palm oil. I may eat sardines and ultimately tiny amounts of salmon to augment this.

I am positive the first 7 days are hell. I remember that being the case in the past. By the end of the third week, brain fog dissapates, and you start to feel A LOT better than you did with any sort of meat based cooked food diet.

I thought I had thyroid disease, but then when I was ultimately resistent to any treatment, massive doses of b12, SAM-e, just about any stimulant, it really dawned on me that I am suffering from a metabolic disease of some sort. You know the nasty CFS/lyme type.

But this is actually well grounded in physiological checks. Basically, I think I could take anyone like me with my kind of health problems, and check their liver and gall bladder, circulatory system and lymphatic system, and nervous system. And I am going to find problems that revolve around those, and there is going to be a history. In my case, my bilirubin was way over the max, I have brain fog, and IBS, and constant fatigue.

And then as well, there are hair mineral analysis tests to determine the precense of heavy metals and other imbalances. I believe in anyone who has the above issues, there are going to be fairly poor results on this hair analysis test.

With this fast however lasting ultimately 60 to 80 days, and continuing in some degree (as it fits into the paleo diet, rather than replacing it entirely), tremendous results can be seen. I believe this type of fasting greatly increases the potency and sensitivity to supplements. Once the liver and gall bladder are cleaned out with this hyper dosing of raw plant matter, the suppelement finally start utilizing the p450 metabolic engine of the liver correctly.

It is important to make it through the first 2 to 3 weeks, because the body has to expel more crap literally and metaphorically than you ever thought you had in you. Once this is out, you will find that you do not need the mass of calories you were under the impression that you needed. As I said, your body becomes much more efficienct at absorbing nutrients and medicines.

I just spent 2 years trying to maintain the weight I am at, after losing 150 lbs, and I have to say that so long as I decided to try and eat a paleo based diet and not juice, I have felt increasingly more debilitated. I always felt better the entire 12 months I spent not eating anything but almonds, fish and fruit, and because I was actively checking my weight, for whatever strange psychological reason, I ate much, much more fruit.

Stopping my consumption of large amounts of raw fruit and beginning the intake of more and more almonds and grass fed beef, was the worst decision I made over 9 months ago.

With a strong, strong juice combination, and ultimately mixing in herbs like schizandra and cordyceps, parsely, cilantro, I am thinking some fairly brutal detoxing can be acheived. Far safer, more efficient detoxing than is done with chlorella or chemical chelators.

To keep this somewhat grounded in hard sciences, I have to say that I am going to be taking methylaters, high dose b12 therapy, and high dose vitamin D therapy, among other nutrient targeted stacks, at least by the beginning of the third week. SAM-e is not working, but after about 3 weeks of this heavy juicing, I suspect it will suddenly work.

Sounds fun! If you like brutal detoxing, have you tried a tablespoon of magnesium sulfate in a glass of water, every 2 hours for 3 doses? Make sure you have no plans for the next 24 hours and that you have exclusive bathroom access. :)

Not many people have the balls to do this. Most of us here just want to take pills and hope to get results. A juice detox will give you better mental clarity, health and energy than any supplement out there. I'm thinking of doing another juice fast this summer. I'd like to put on some more weight though so I don't get too skinny.

Just try to keep your protein intake sufficient so you don't lose valuable lean body mass.

This is not repudiation of efficacy, but an affair with doubt.

On what reasoning are these myriad assumptions based? It sounds like a lot of wishful thinking; sorry to burst your bubble. Most of the mechanisms that you imply or present are tenuous. Some of the ideas seem to come out of left field.

Once this is out, you will find that you do not need the mass of calories you were under the impression that you needed. As I said, your body becomes much more efficienct at absorbing nutrients and medicines.

Can you qualify or quantify any of this? You propose a secondary fundamental mechanism for the lowering of caloric needs beyond the bodies desire for homeostasis and, more importantly, for what it perceives as the avoidance of starvation.

You have no reason to discuss this with me, but technically the burden of proof is on you. I would suggest, for your sake, that it be a burden you bear.

I love juicing. I normally do like 4-5 days at a time.

Juicing pulls the skeptics out from all corners. The results are conclusive and their are thousands and thousands of testimonials of people not only feeling better but healing diabetes and other diseases. It also makes sense that once the junk is cleared out of you we would become more efficient at absorbing nutrients. The proof is out there and also in your own subjective tests if your willing to try them. I can't wait for Summer to do a juice fast. I get too cold in the winter when juicing. I noticed after drinking 2-3 large 40+ ounces of juice that many of the aches and pains I had seemed to vanish. I am now in my 30's where everyone starts complaining they are getting old and don't feel as good which has nothing to do with age but how you take care of yourself through diet and exercise and your own thoughts.
