You used some big words there, but I'm not sure you know what they mean. You also seem to have changed your tune dramatically about your role in the research since people started calling you out on your nonsense.

If you could provide some sort of verification like that, it would set aside my doubts. MIT is a pretty transparent institution, from everything I can gather and seems to make pretty big deals out of what seems like paltry sums compared to your 5 million dollar research grant. I'm sure they'd publicize the heck out of it, if that were the case.

No you are missing the point! He explicitly mentioned its top secret and cannot be disclosed... The ultimate nootropic has to be kept under wraps by the secret team at MIT...

I AM PART OF A SECRET TEAM AT OXFORD TRYING TO CURE ALL DISEASES AT A CELLULAR LEVEL. WE'RE ABOUT 69% DONE. SORRY I CAN'T SAY MORE, IT'S MY CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT. TOP SECRET STUFF MY FRIEND! Better just take my word for it! - Supercosmos36

I have no need to prove anything since the time and effort that it takes prove my admittance at MIT is not worth it.

Hyperspace21, you put so much effort into defending yourself verbally and yet you're too lazy to make a MIT.edu address? Isn't this really embarrassing by now?

Then why brag about it? It was obviously worth it enough for you to mention it over and over in both your posts and your profile. Do you think people are just going to take it for granted and be like oh this guys an expert? You seem to write everything in simple terms and justify it by saying that you are making it easier on 'the layman'. What do unverified credentials grant you other than some temporary illusory superiority to a gullible few?

You haven't given any proof, all you've done was deflect my questions. It should be easy enough to prove your attendance -- just post a picture of a redacted MIT student ID (you no doubt received one of those -- how else do you swipe into your dorm, the lab, or take books out of the student library?). I could prove my attendance at my undergrad in a single post by posting my edu address. Nut up or shut up, dude.

What do you mean you can prove your admission at some institution by posting your edu address? Any one can put a name and add @mit.edu. How is that proof?

I posted my @caa.columbia.edu email address back in the thread when hyperspace asked how I could verify what school I went to. Feel free to hit me up at that email address. The point is that it is the most basic level of proof that could be offered, and he couldn't even offer that.

Yeah true I can email you something and see if you get it, ok I see, yeah that's very sensible and easy to confirm!

but then

I'm at MIT and I've met Hyperspace21 in the past. He's exaggerating his research a little bit, but trust me he's really doing this. Most of his main claims are fully truthful, but mixes in some dishonesty when talking about the actual studies. People on the internet tend to overplay their achievements a little bit, go figure. But regardless of that he's definitely educated enough to be leading this debate. Hope this clears everything now. No disrespect to you, I just wanted this to stop. Back on topic.

Not trying to say "GOTCHA" or anything, but you defended him once and haven't mentioned it since. Can you explain further? You seem to be the only person with any real evidence...

It's obviously bullshit. I don't know why people just believe anything they're told on the internet. I've been in the US a total of 2 weeks in my entire life. I just wanted to troll the discussion.

AH! Not so obvious. If you're really interested in people being skeptical of hyperspace, you might want to edit that comment. It was the one thing that made him seem legit. I guess I'm not good at reading sarcasm...

To defend being a "person on the internet who believes everything" (including taking sarcasm literally lol) I would say that if he were trying to sell me something I'd be 100x more skeptical. If he were trying to sell me something expensive I'd probably call into question this entire site, that anyone here is a real person not working to sell me the stuff. But in this case I can't think of what he stands to gain other than a few people telling him how cool he is. I realize that is enough of an incentive to BS everyone, but there are much simpler lies to tell to get social recognition. Seems like a fairly weak case - the prosecution isn't proving a motive.

On the other hand, I don't understand why he's so reluctant to prove his ID - it's fishy for sure. Maybe he's extremely private. <shrug>

In the end, what if I believed him and it turned out to be fake? OMG I SPENT $15 ON SOME SUPPLEMENTS I DIDN'T NEED, THAT BASTARD!!!

Anyway, whatever, these points have all been made. I'm spending waaaay too much time on this...

I have been loosely following this situation and, personally, I think all of you are making a WAY bigger deal of this than needs to be made.

I would like to address several things specifically

1. His usage of British spelling while he is at MIT means nothing. I am a lowly high school student, and my friends and I use British spelling and European date format quite often, some times on accident(though some times just to troll). It comes from reading far too much on British websites and, besides, one feels much more sophisticated and formal by writing "2 litre" than "2 liter". Plus, I hope you realize that many MIT students come from foreign countries.

2. His coloring of words in a similar manner to ScienceGuy, while admittedly suspicious, is definitely not evidence of him being the same person. Honestly, I like the coloring, It is nice and organized. I think, most likely, Hyperspace came to the forum, saw some of ScienceGuy's neatly organized, highly successful posts, and was impressed. It would only make sense that he would attempt to copy the style if it he wanted to make the same impression on others.

3. Lastly, you need to think about what you are all doing. You are accusing a member of being a fraud. It is understandable to question his credentials, but this is borderline delusional. Reading some of these posts, we really sound like a bunch of paranoid drug users (and maybe we are).

I would like to add that I am not trying to defend Hyperspace, his MIT claim is pretty unrealistic, but I do think we may want to step back and analyze the situation a bit.

In my opinion the most outspoken of you on both sides of the discussion are probably a team of friends that are creating controversy out of nothing for the purpose of monetary gain of some sort. Oh, you aren't plugging a product? Well, maybe it's just a test run to see how easily the board can be manipulated and over-run by a few rogue posters, posting off-topic remarks or making absurd claims. And in that case, bravo, you've definitely accomplished your short term goal.

But in my eyes it's suspicious that the majority of these adamant posters all have join-dates in very close vacinity, and IP addresses in wild-card yet separate areas of the world. And to top it off, with details in their posts that seem intentionally placed in order to obfuscate their cooperation and/or affiliation.

I tend to over-think things and jump to conclusions, which is why I've learned not to act hastily in these types of matters in life. But the solution that would make my job 1000 times easier would be to ban you all!!!! But I'd likely get in trouble and I'm sure that there's an irrelevant percentage point of a chance that I'm wrong...

Maybe the whole hyperspace21 debacle is actually a distraction to draw attention away from the rest of the forum where the true spamming is going on. Oh no, I just gave some pretty good ideas to potential spammers out there, better create some sort of system for this ;)

I have to admit although this is/was entertaining its actually distracting from getting the maximum use out of piracetam known,
i think the questions regarding hyperspace21 should be focused in a separate thread, and a new thread should be made instead of that other piracetam thread because its so cluttered and i cant even find the information, plus i had some questions regarding glutamate and the blood brain barrier which i thought were worth noting.

i think we all know that glutamate and minerals, (agonist)/precursers of Glu receptors will enhance piracetams effect, if its a (allosteric modulator) of Glu receptors..

so the second question, i think is, does the glutamate cross over to the brain effectively and safely?
but maybe it really isnt about the precursers and more about the piracetam, piracetam has more potency on the NMDA receptors, (so.. NMDA agonist would work better right?, glycine, aspartic acid? and sarcosine) then on the other glutamate receptors.

Really? This strikes me as securely in the category of "tin-foil-hat-level paranoid conspiracy". Where's the motive? Maybe if I saw the evidence I'd agree, but from the outside this just seems nutty. At least you're not taking sides :)

I guess you still haven't heard from the MIT professor? Why haven't you responded to the requests for an update? Are you in on this too? ;)

Edit: I see that you've moved all the posts. Thank you for taking the time to do that!

Hey, what are you doing posting these scientific questions among our arguments!? :)

But seriously, this is the flame thread. I encourage you to go to the "real" thread and post this question. It would be nice to get that one back on track.

I actually didn't confirm that hyperspace and scienceguy have different ip addresses... you inferred that on your own... do you have first-hand knowledge of it.

What I said exactly was:

But in my eyes it's suspicious that the majority of these adamant posters all have join-dates in very close vacinity, and IP addresses in wild-card yet separate areas of the world. And what you inferred is that scienceguy and hyperspace have different IP addresses... This is right after labeling the idea as a "conspiracy theory", which carries a negative connotation... even though technically it is a conspiracy theory...dun dun dunnnn!!! LOL!

Having different IP addresses doesn't prove anything necessarily but at this point, we're chopping logic over something that doesn't require this sort of attention really. It seems as though ScienceGuy has decided to take a break from this forum, which is fine by me, and perhaps Hyperspace should take a leaf out of his book. This is all turning into quite the circus performance.

All I sense from Hyperspace's posts is a bunch of doublespeak. Using circumlocution he manages to evade the simple requests to validate his identity and his association with MIT.

As a few posters have already suggested, proving your involvement with a research project such as this and admission to a university are both relatively easy tasks to accomplish and ones that would lay all of these issues to rest. So far I don't feel any credible information has been put forth to substantiate Hyperspace's claims which is too bad.

The letter was written to the professor at MIT provided by HyperSpace21. This was her response, verbatim.

I am not involved. Your email is the first that I have heard of this. -*Name removed

I'm pretty sure this will put an end to the debate about Hyperspace's legitimacy as a student at MIT or this piracetam study as a whole. That being said, I think it should also be noted that a personalized approach to tweaking your own calcium and glutamate levels in regard to piracetam use is a pretty ingenious idea. And it seems to be working for some people. Shoot, I'm gonna try it.

Anyway, now that this drama can soon come to an end, maybe we can focus on nootropics and brain health again?

jts234, given that this confirmation that hyperspace is a fraud has only just happened, this should have been the starting point for ur persecution attack on hyperspace... and not several weeks ago before it was known if he was guilty or not... you sir should be ashamed of yourself! and clearly you are not a christian since u clearly care not that u will burn in hell for ur sins!:

"Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged" (matthew 7,1)

Mod (manic),

I suggest updating the first post in the thread to summarize the outcome of Hyperspace21's identity inquiry. While you're at it you could also update the first post so it doesn't look like I said a bunch of stuff that manic said ;)

Thanks!

So, before we get all pissed off and throw out the data, lets consider what could have really been going on:

1) He was a total fake making up lies for some nefarious reason or another
2) He was trying to conduct an experiment on the members of this forum
3) He's conducting independent experiments on his fiends and pretending they're part of some fancy study
4) He's really a student somewhere other than MIT that is conducting these studies
5) He's working for some shady (Russian) company trying to develop new noots

Depending on the scenario we could still have some interesting data to work with, regardless of the lies about who he was/is.

Edited for clearer wording

I can try, but like I tried to say earlier... due to the time stamps of all these comments and threads being out of chronological order there isn't much other way to do it within the framework of the forum. I'm trying to find a way to bypass that system but so far having little luck.

EDIT: Alright taken care of.
