it seems it is a GABA agonist, so downregulation is possible with 'chronic' use now... what is 'chronic' use? 1 500mg tablet per day for 2 months , or what? ; )

I hope that 2 g, 5 days on, 2 days of is OK to maintain the effect. Will see. It's good that I still felt the effect during the weekend, but how I feel right now is just amazing. This stuff makes me more confident and anxious-free than 2.000 mg of Phenibut.
OK, the way I take it is combination of ashwagandha, rhodiola and coffee. The way I speak is different. I speak loud and clear, I'm not afraid to say something wrong or not to know something. I'm extremely concentrated and focused. I enjoy speaking in front of other people. So now all is opposite than it used to be without any mood swings. When I get up and take it it keeps me motivated and confident through the day.
It's possible that Taurine itself does not have this 'magic' but in combination with rhodiola and ashwagandha (and coffee) somehow boosts the effect of the adaptogen plants. Who knows... I will come back by the end of the week, I hope with the same experience.

probably will have stronger effect with ashwagandha, too.
I'm taking it from yesterday - should be nice to use it from time to time, but I would not take the risk to downregulate GABA receptors ;]

Although there is no stipulated dosage of taurine, the daily dosage recommended by most doctors is about 2 to 3g. As of today, there are no known horrendous side effects of taurine supplements. When ingested in appropriate amounts, taurine is considered considerably safe for children and adults. Taurine is given to even formula-fed babies. In studies, lasting up to one year on adults, no particular negative effects were revealed. Excess taurine taken into the body is excreted via the kidneys, so it's not something to be worried about.

U know its great that it works nicely but after hearing how wonderful and without any side effects several supplements ought to be [like rhodiola, ashwagandha, gotu kola etc etc] and then checking for myself that this is not true and if u go up then u need to come down at some point I'd rather stay safe and don't overdo it I'm not worried about removing taurine from the system, but how its prolonged effect on GABA will act on my brain.

You may see taurine referred to as “a conditional amino acid,” to distinguish it from “an essential amino acid.” A “conditional amino acid” can be manufactured by the body, but an “essential amino acid” cannot be made by the body and must be provided by the diet.
so, essential or not?
AFAIK they did not set up proper RDA for it... some people were geting like 200mg per day, some 400... heh.
GABA downregulation - common symptom is being anxious, aggressive, or having tachycardia. Basically opposite of what GABA can do

That's not that simple, I have most of those symptoms and I don't take any GABAergic supplements, with the exception of some lemon balm infusion.

What is the first sign of GABA down-regulation? How can you know that something is wrong (or will go wrong) and that you should quit with some supplements?

it could be a result of an increase in nerve growth. are you taking any other nerve growth factors?Anyone has had a itching reaction ? That's surprising because generally I react badly mentally or in relation with my digestive system but never like this. My acunpucturist said that I have a bad liver (I assume that it is her really personnal non scientific point of view but..). So could it be related with a bad reaction of my liver ? I have consummed 2 glass of wine yesterday.
Anyway so far the effect of ashwagandha have normalized and are quite good but it's really annoying to feel like I was in a comedown of a tramadol trip lol.

after research and feedback from you guys...as i stated before, I decided to either go with the himilaya or nutrigold brand. i'd like to know:
1. the biggest difference that sets the two apart
2. what the difference in withanolides mean
3. what the difference in mg means
4. any downsides to either brand

Yesterday I took Taurine in the morning and in the evening before workout (with coffee and rhodiola). I was extremely in a good mood, ready for my workout so this is a perfect pre-workout mix. This morning I took Taurin again, and I feel amazing (confident and fearless).
My conclusion: you have to maintain the level of taurin in the 'system' and take at least 1-2 g twice a day. Based on my experience it is OK to take it 5 days on 2 days of because during this 2 days off you will still feel the benefit from taurin (milder but still noticeable).

I hadwell first of all DO NOT mix ashwagandha with alcohol, dude. that is potentially dangerous. both are synergistic. and I would suggest that the reaction you've had was exactly that.
secondly, if u do not trust your acupuncturist why do not go to a qualified doctor and check your liver to be sure?
my liver tested recently, and I noticed nothing alarming, nevertheless I couldn't sleep until 5am this morning due to terrible itching PARTICULARLY in Hands and feet
So I must stop everything, I expect that my anxiety will fly through the roof lol.

FWIW, this whole thread was started by a guy taking the Himilaya brand. I took it before and had decent results, and it's cheap. Considering it's nominal price, I'd just buy both the Nutrigold and the Himilaya.
I said that earlier! haha.
Interesting synergy that you have found Andrey. Must be that these specific substances together affect your brain chemistry nearly optimally. I cannot take coffee, it makes me go psychotic! Anyway, I am confident Ashwagandha will be beneficial for me with all these abnormal cortisol test results.

very good mix with ashwagandha, too.
the only but serious let down - I feel my liver. and it is a painful feeling, like needles, or burning. a bit of worried because of this.
some people saying that you can't because it is not covered in nerve endings but others are saying that when it is swollen it touches the nearby membranes and you can feel it. and Im a little bit worried but taurine is one of the bile ingredients so... healthy or not? not sure yet.
It is definitely it, because when i take dandelion for ilver detox I can definetely 'feel the heat' under the bottom right rib - has to be liver, isn't it?
also it increases the production of stomach acid, my digestion is like 3 x times faster lol and also gastric ulcers are a possibility.
but it is very good as GABA boost - with ashwagandha is perfect. and I've noticed improved performance during workout. once again - thanks for recommending it I'm planning to use it when I feel the need, or when I'm very stressed. works fast and well. better this than SSRI
Babychris: try taurine then. Also, maybe you have an allergy?

can't take taurine on a regular basis. it causes constant stomach / liver pain and overstimulates digestion. My gf has exactly same symptoms.
bad luck it seems.
we've been taking 2 x 500mg daily. Don't know how someone can take 4.500mg daily... it will probably dissolve my stomach due to increased bile/acid production lol

I weight 72 kg (158 lb) and for me 500 mg Himalaya extract is enough (250 mg in the morning and 250 afternoon). I take second dose when I feel that I need it so it depends, sometimes it's at 1:00, sometimes at 5:00. Only during some hard days I have to take my third dose but I don't remember when was the last time I had to take my third pill.
Once I tried to take 1.000 mg per day and this was not good. I stopped after 3 days, so it's better to stay with lower doses. I never take it before bed, but sometimes (very rarely) if I wake up during the night (at 3:00) and if I cannot sleep I take it and it helps in few minutes.
Himalaya from India (can be bought on ebay) it the one I take. Every pill is 250 mg extract.

I'm vastly better in the evening and at night a nootropics only work at this time it's really weird ! I wish I could avoid those few minutes or hours when I feel really weird and empty, My head become heavy and when I contract the skin of my headfront I feel like something is cracking (sorry my vocabulary is not sufficient to describe my feeling better)
Anyway I don't see any problem with ashwa it's a GOOD adaptogen. I don't understand why it's the only one we could not find in france, when we can very easily find Rhodiola or ginseng and even bacopa (which I assume is a not a adopt')
I have this itching reaction that is a bit frightening but since I don't drink I'm not particularly affraid and I'll test my liver to be sure.. If anyone has some anecdotes about ashwa and liver I'm on! And if someone coupled it with success or not with nootropics I4M interested..
