Hey everyone I think I have come across a method for making lions mane mushroom powder more effective. It seems to me that when I take lions mane powder and blend it in a high power blender like my vita mix in boiled water for at least 30 seconds the effects are much stronger and noticeable than just mixing the powder in water.

The particle size is being reduced by the blender and this is what seems to be making it more bioavailable. The dose I take is about 6-7 grams. There is an obvious effect when taken this way on an empty stomach in the morning. This combined with ACLAR + ACLAR Arginate, uridine, and fish oil. Wow. Such a Godsend.

Is there a way with some machine to micronize the powder? I think it would be very effective.

Very nice first post, meatsauce. It sounds theoretically solid. I've just tried it out myself, and it does seem to impart a more "fungal" smell to my Swanson's Lion's Mane than otherwise. Let's see how it pans out in reality.

Thanks for sharing.

I, for one, would love to hear other tips and tricks about Lion's Mane. I took it for a while with no discernible results. Since I am on a tight budget, I'd love to know how to get the "most bang for the buck".

There have been many threads that have discussed aspects of Lion's Mane, but knowledge is always changing and evolving.

Hi meatsauce; which source of Lion's Mane are you using? 6-7 grams in one setting would be close to impossible with the prices I'm paying at the moment! I do think that the delivery method of most if not all supplements is vastly underestimated cause of their ultimate efficiency (or inefficiency) in the body. For an example for me the difference between Creatine Monohydrate complete dissolved and partly dissolved is like night and day; simply does not work if not 100% dissolved before intake.

Thank you for contributing with novel idea for intake of Lion's Mane, will be interesting to see if people can replicate enhanced effect using your method.

Back with update from my experience: it does seem to work better. Will come back to this in a few days to give a more definitive veredict.

How do I know that it seems to work better? Lion's Mane has an "effect" for me, I can feel it the way others feel coffee or smoking (Although it doesn't feel anything like either of those two). The method suggested by meatsauce creates a more potent and powerful delivery method than just ingesting the caps, which is what I have been doing up to now.

Before you look for other tips and tricks, try this one out. I think the OP is onto something. :)

From chemist perspective, if constituents of cell (for example mushroom cells) are to be extracted, one should treat this material with heat, ultrasonic bath or microwaves - all this to burst open those cells. There are many examples in literature for increased isolated yield of active material using these methods, for example:

^ cool info. I wonder if microwaves would destroy any of the alkaloids in Lion's Mane?

Just wanted to say I was one of the ones with very positive effects after taking for 2-4 days which slowly increased the longer I would take it.(and did go away, but not fully and it took ~2weeks to really not notice any of its visual signal/processing enhancements(as a kind of objective measure, vision seems decent). And this is the technique I used except(maybe mine was ground well already or it just makes it more potent,), but I basically just would make a large cup of tea with 1-6 grams(mixing it every like 5mins or so like 4 times and keeping it covered with plastic wrap/whatever(to trap anything besides water that might be vaporizing into the air). 2grams seemed best or 1 for longer term. I used MRL lions mane(and I've tried swansons after and it seems very similar, but I have not been able to compare very well recently because of other more important things that make it hard to stop and notice.

I would either drink the goo-ified powder with the water or just the water(which would turn slightly less transparent colored like the lions main's off whiteish/tanish color and have a very noticeable "lions mane smell."). Both seemed to work similar... I can't really say if it mattered, but I know making a tea type thing with the powder helps a lot for me.

Probably a stupid question, but would using this method with something like piracetam increase its effects?

Would boiling it change any of its active ingredient's properties?

Very interesting. On one hand, heat could cause a reduced amount of active ingredient by destroying it, on the other, it seems to be increasing its effects, perhaps by reducing some of the need for the body to digest it?

Well piracetam and lion's mane work in different ways but im sure if both work in your body that the combination will be good.

Interesting. People on this forum have this stuff all figured out for resveratrol, dissolving it in alcohol to increase absorption and whatnot... that might very well work for other, similar compounds.

With piracetam specifically, probably not. Piracetam already dissolves fully and easily in nearly any mount of water, and I think that for fully dissolved substances, 'particle size' stops being a factor.

Also, a proper dose of piracetam in hot water would be fairly disgusting.

Has anyone took lion's mane and piracetam together?

If you have, do you take them together, or at separate intervals? For example: Piracetam in the morning / Lion's mane at night? I want to add lion's mane to my stack but not sure where to start.

Any suggestions?

I take both, and in my opinion, it doesn´t really matter. Lion´s mane is nothing like piracetam when talking about immediate effects, the mechanism of action is completely different. I take it in the evening before bed, sometimes another dose through the day. But it will not potentiate piracetam effects or so, so just take it whenever it is convenient for you.

Vitamin C is widely touted as potentiating the effects of beta glucans in medicinal mushrooms, or otherwise aiding in their efficacy.

Search for the article "Synergistic potentiation of D-fraction with Vitamin C as possible alternative approach for cancer therapy". (This search will also yield numerous results of people using Vitamin C to potentiate psilocybin mushrooms.)

I took Piracetam and Lion's Mane this morning, among other things. I haven't taken either very long, but have noticed that I can't take Lion's Mane at night without getting horrible nightmares.

Also, along with vitamin C, a fat source such as a a teaspoon of coconut oil or fish oil can really help Lion's Mane absorb properly. Yeah, mushroomharvest is the best source I've found.

The brand "Purica" claims to be micronized on their label. I just picked some up from a local health food store - $47 for 120 capsules. Dosage states 3 capsules per day.

Well my lb each of both cordyceps and lion's mane has arrived. Mushroom Harvest recommended consuming both on an empty stomach with a source of vitamin c. What's the reasoning behind the fat source?

I take the 30% water extract I got from Aliexpress with decaf espresso in the afternoon (maybe 1/4 tsp) and get a stim good boost... Even too much so, so I'm taking a break after a few months use. Seems almost too cholinergic to me, which increases my anxiety and some depression after a while, although I like the extra mental edge and memory stimulation.
Research is still thin on the ground on LM's modus operandi, but I did find a brief reference to some activation of acetylcholine transport... Which is not as 'bad' for me as acetylcholine esterase inhibition in terms of anxiety.
Incidentally, it seems many NGF enhancers work through the acetylcholine system...

Adaptogen,

Having searched through all my saved info: I Have No Idea

Probably this info came from about 3-4 years ago when I was learning how to use mushroom extracts. My best guess is from Paul Stamet's work, though I can't be sure. Nowadays I wouldn't necessarily use his writings as the only expert source on mushroom extracts. But it still seems like a good idea to have some sort of fat with the powders, if you think that consuming healthy fats help neuronal health, especially when you are trying to heal-grow-optimize brain cells. I'll look for more on this, as it's an important point.

BAMP

There are endless Lion's mane's threads and I just don't want to create a duplicate. From Examine: As the water soluble extract seems to be less potent than other fractions, it may be best to take Yamabushitake with meals if in supplemental form. I bought them on eBay from a german producer and It also says to take them with meals. Since some of you take it with empty stomach, what's the best administration way?

Got some raw lion's mane powder, smells like salty mdf saw dust if that makes sense. Anyway tried the tea method by adding a tsp into boilling water. This stuff effected my like caffiene, you get that wide eyed feeling within a few minutes. I felt that stimutlant type brain expanding feeling, but without all the stimulant type side effects. This is good for a pickup in late in the evening instead of caffiene.

It gave me a natural focus into what ever I was doing, it gives a motivational boost, but you got to follow through on the motivation like anything else it will flat line if not.

Now this is only my first day results, my body is a tolence machine, I try stuff one day and next nada. So will see how long the effect continue for.
