I am looking for Vitamin D3 and decided these products so far.Which among these is suitable.

1-Schiff® Mega-D3™ 5000 IU - Vitamin D3 with Resveratrol(200mg)

2-Jarrow FORMULAS® Vitamin D3(5000IU)

I'd go with Jarrow over Schiff, based on company reliability.

Dose by serum levels, by the way (in case you weren't aware).

20 minutes in the sun between 10AM-2PM. Vitamin D is actually a pro-hormone steroid, and produced along with thousands of other factors on your skin with stimulation from the sun. When supplemented, it has to be converted in your kidneys instead of on your skin, and you couldn't possibly get enough D3 from food (which tells me it's not ideal for your kidneys to process that much). Your missing out on cofactors and a lot more by just taking the supplement, and probably causing harm in the long term.

That being said, I take 4000 units of Carlson D3 on days when I don't get my time in the sun. I try to take it as infrequently as possible.

Is that the same Mercola that sells tanning beds and claims that anything less than 50ng/mL is deficient? right.

I don't like Mercola either, I don't buy any of his stuff or even read his articles. Someone sent me that article on D and his info is correct. He recommends the sun over tanning beds, and a conventional doctor my father went to (my father is a doctor too) said his D levels were good at over 50ng/mL. So without even reading the article, you give me a negative rating, real smart. The recommended D levels are rising all the time, maybe your thinking of old info?

Negative rating? not me. Anyway i could care less, it's impossible to get enough D3 from the sun alone year around and the only other options would be supplementing or tanning beds and i wonder which mercola would want you to choose.

If you look around you will find that 30-35ng/mL is the new sweet spot.

There is a study published somewhere, which I will try to look up, that when looking at the various forms (nothing to with brands) the form that provided the greatest amount of absorption based on a specific dose was the forms delivered in "Softgels" worked the best.

@algea- I think the Carlosn softgels are the best Vitamin D3 on the market. Nothing to substantiate that other than the response I receive from them.

Interesting, I will look into that. I have yet to have my levels tested myself. Mercola actually sells tanning beds and a NANO reduced D3 spray, as if I want something I couldn't even get (more than small amounts from fish etc. from food) entering unknown parts of my body. And I believe it's below 5nm which is the size that has general safety concerns.

Since it'd be impossible to get enough D form whole foods, I think it's probably not good to take large amounts internally. It has to be processed by your kidneys, and I've read anecdotal reports of people having kidney failure. Of course I realize it's anecdotal and not necessary linked to D supplements, but still concerns me. Seeing as D on your skin is produced with many other factors, and because it's a prohormone steroid, NOT a vitamin, I think tanning beds are probably a better bet. Never tried one though, I'm not going to spend a thousand bucks on one just yet.

Yes I'd like to see that. I like my Carlson liquid drops (I can feel them) and haven't tried any other brands or forms. Logically though, I can't understand why it should be different than a softgel since the only difference between a liquid should be that softgel takes longer to break open. And compared to dry I wouldn't understand either, since only the form in animal products is fat soluble (needs to be in oil). The D3 in supplements is water soluble so it doesn't need oil. I'm not saying your wrong, I just don't understand why that would be.
