Thanks for the response

Well my issue is that when I´m sometimes planning to take several herbs e.g. salvia miltiorrhiza

.. Pharmacological examinations showed that the plant and its active ingredients, tanshinones and salvianolic acids, have anticoagulant, ..

http://www.cmjournal.org/content/1/1/3

..STS (Tanshinone IIA from salvia miltiorrhiza)  impaired the ex vivo, but not in vitro, collagen-stimulated platelet aggregation..

http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/21453766

With e.g. paeonia suffruticosa

..effects on both platelet aggregation and blood coagulation..

http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/20824965

I cant know for sure whether these effects of thinning the blood are identical and even when, if they could still cause bleedings in overdoses.

I´m thinking here on something like plavix(clopidogrel) or at least marcumar which afaik shouldnt be overdosed because of possible bleedings.

or Chinese foxglove / rehmannia glutinosa

which seems at least to me to share the same effects with plavix.

... Experiment on rats, both in vivo and in vitro, show marked inhibitive action on hemostasis induced by ADP, and decreasing in adhesion and aggregation of platelets...

http://www.mdidea.co...86research.html

So I dont know how thinn my blood is due the different effects and cant know exactly how long to wait before starting with the other one.

My idea was to ask for a wayy to measure it at home.

Therefore my questions

Btw: could vitamine K be really that dangerous and cause clots even when You´re using plavix or aspirine ?

May I ask what ginkgo biloba products you've been using ? I've looked into this topic today, but from what I was able to find, very few manufacturers actually reveal whether their ginkgo product meets the requirement of the German commission E of less than 5 ppm ginkolic acid.

The extract that has been used in most studies is called EGB761.

Personally, I have been happy with other ginkgo varieties that do not contain certified EGB761 as well (for example Boots-branded Ginkgo) - they all seem to enhance concentration/focus, in particular, in my experience, when administered with fish oil and green tea.

But if you want to use EGB761, 'Ginkgold' is one brand available on iherb and in other online shops.

Hey Chip -- see God of Small things post above.  Ginkgold is the brand that contains EGB761.  I bought if off of Amazon and the price was right.

Quick question (since I am a total newbie):

Is it recommended to take the following pills as a stack:

Fishoils

Ginkgo (30mg)

B-Complex (with 10 times the RDA for some of the Bs)

Rhodiala Rosea (400mg 3% rosavins/salidroside)

Choline Inositol

Coffee when about to study or do physical training

I also got Smart Caffeine (with L-theanine) but I don't use it cause it makes me sleepy

My objective is memory enhancement and keeping me as calm (less anxious) as possible.

This seems like a very reasonable stack to me.

I've also had similar results with L-theanine, so I rarely use it.  I did try to use it for a while as a sleep aid because of this.  While it did help me fall asleep, I usually awoke feeling less rested and occasionally disoriented.

It has been a while since I used Rhodiola, but I've usually had good results in the past.  Sometimes it feels a little too stimulatory to me-- like the engine is running harder but not really driving anywhere I want to go...  I seem to recall feeling much less fatigue while using it, but also feeling less focused.  However, it has been a long while since I've given it a good trial and the literature behind it is promising.

I've been using Nature's Bounty:  http://www.naturesbo.../product/017243

I've been unable to find a ginkgolic acid content statement for this product-- which is concerning.  I'm glad you brought this up.  It is an element of Ginkgo that, to be honest, I've failed to sufficiently research thus far.  I've always had good results from this brand, and based on the concerns surrounding Ginkgolic acid, it would be unlikely that I would be able to subjectively discern any negative effects from elevated ginkgolic acid content... until I incurred enough liver damage, cancer, or other problems potentially associated with SUMOylation-- a biochemical pathway that is unfortunately far less studied than I would have hoped when doing some brief reading through PubMed.

As HungryHippocami mentioned, Ginkgold from Nature's Way appears to meet the criteria you mentioned, and is in fact manufactured in Germany.
http://www.natureswa...nkgold-100-Tabs
I don't see a specific Ginkgolic Acid ppm rating, but I would assume they must meet the Germany requirements if they are manufactured there...

NutriGold Ginkgo Biloba is another option that does specifically claim to meet the <5ppm requirement, and is slightly cheaper on Amazon than Ginkgold.

I was working on an answer while you produced this impatient sounding post, but now I think I will work on something else.

If you want to run your own bleeding time test, perhaps go read about how to carry one out and proceed with caution.  Or just go talk to a doctor and get some of the tests done that I mentioned before.

Thanks for you reply.

Another question (if you don't mind :)

I am using nootropics for studying. My subject is far easier than yours but I am also older and surely less bright.

Basically I have an exam where I have to know the gist of around 50 A4 pages of text. My plan is to setup a number of mneumonics which usually work something like this:

The Advantages/Disadvantages of X are associated to a character in a mneumonic (fictional) word say BERNARD-RUSSELL

Then my brain's job is that of associating every character to a advantage/disadvantage and do this for how many pieces of information in the 50 A4 Pages I can.

In the exam I would then simply recall the word BERNARD-RUSSELL, and then recall each character's association with a concept/advantage etc.

In this context, what would be your suggested nootropic stack for:

1) daily - to keep my brain top notch

2) just before studying - i usually study after work for 1/2 .. max 3 hours.

to enhance rapid memorization and recalling speed of these characters?

Regards,

Chris

NoopMed : Since protracted use of ginkgo biloba appears to be required for one to experience it's cognitive benefits, I think that in this context the ginkolic acid content of any GB extracts indeed becomes quite relevant. More to the point, I'm 42 and my mother has recently passed away from cancer (cholangiocarcinoma). I tried registered nursing for 2 1/2 years, but recently quit the profession as it wasn't for me. So, ginkgo becomes even more relevant since I'm looking at completing a bachelor degree in psychology.

I've already been on high EPA to DHA fish oil for some time. I tried regular fish oil (3:2 epa-dha), high DHA to EPA and high EPA to DHA. I couldn't tolerate the high DHA to EPA fish oil - it'd leave me feeling lethargic, unmotivated and brain fogged. My girlfriend also noticed the same outcome on the high DHA to EPA fish oil. I do very well on the one with high EPA to DHA. I usually take it with low dose coenzyme Q10 to help reduce PUFA peroxidation.

As far as I could see going through the last few pages of this thread, the combo of : ginkgo biloba + fish oil + piracetam has received the most attention. I've also been drinking Japanese loose leaf sencha for nearly four years now (3-4 cups/day).

Also, thanks for making other recommendations for ginkgo biloba products. For this one time, I went with Ginkgold by Nature's Way - I ordered it two days ago after HungryHippocampi posted his response. NutriGold is without any doubt, yet another top pick as far as Ginkgo is concerned.

Hello All,

When I added in Armodafinil (a histamine agonist, among other things), I began noticing minor allergies and rashes-- as I've mentioned before I tend to be prone to atopy. The solution to both of these problems is the addition of a non-blood-brain-barrier soluble H1/M1,3 antagonist, like Claritin. Voila. No more systemic side effects and no noticeable reduction in CNS efficacy, the nootropic stack is now isolated to activity within the blood brain barrier... in theory. So far this has been working very well for me.

---------------------------------------------------

So here's my current Medical Boards Study Stack:

--Daily--

**Breakfast**

-1200mg Piracetam
-250mg CDP-Choline

Noopmed, out... For now.

Noopmed, just checking to see if you are still alive. ;) I took Piracetam and Modafinil and ended up with rashes and itchy patches all over my body. I was warned to stop immediately and seek medical attention. Due to money (and pride) issues, I decided just to stop taking both and then started taking antihistamines twice a day for the past 3 days. The rashes are getting better, but not totally gone. But I thought about taking Loratadine (Claritin), but a few people said I was asking for trouble by masking the side effects. So I guess my question to you is, were your rashes bad? Are you still taking the Piracetam and Claritin? Any issues? Thanks for any feedback!
