I'm surprised by the lack of discussion here on the subject of menopause and perimenopause, or perhaps my Google-fu is weak today.

In any case, my wife at age 40 just experienced her first hot flash, has started getting warmer than usual while sleeping, and is seeing the first signs of irregularity in her cycle.

Would love to hear from folks about supplements, dietary considerations, lifestyle changes, and any other well regarded treatments that can be adopted during this time and going forward.

Ditto, I'm also very interested in this topic. Do we have to suggest a board for 40+?

I've heard great things about DIM and calcium d-glucarate for reducing menopause symptoms. Among other positive benefits, they are supposed to reduce estrogen dominance which seems to be a growing problem for men and women these days due to increased phytoestogens and xenoestrogens in our diet and environment. As a man, I have been taking 500mg of each one once per day and have noticed an improvement in my complexion. I would recommend that you do a search for "dim menopause" and "calcium d-glucarate menopause". Also go to Amazon.com and read reviews for the two supplements.

Red clover, flaxseed lignans, vitex, hops, bioidentical hormones. There's lots of things.

Links to credible studies for any of the above suggestions? (other than the bioidentical hormones given it's association with endometrial cancer)

You can go hog wild at PubMed, there's lots of single ingredient studies. But I would save time and stress and see if established tradition and clinical experience works first. Google Dr. Schulze's Female Formula.

As far as an "association", its not a "bioidentical hormones" issue per se, its an insufficiency issue. Whenever any kind of estrogen is given, it must be properly balanced off with sufficient progesterone or endometrial hyperplasia will result which can subsequently turn into cancer if not rectified. So obviously, a highly skilled and experienced practitioner is necessary to deal with the many subtleties of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, not one just cashing in on the anti-aging craze.

Obviously, but was interested in recommendations for specific products from members here backed up by actual research they are already familiar with and could point me towards.

Any updates for this topic?

What should I be giving a person who became extremely negative and hostile after menopause?   She says she always wakes up angry these days. Waking at 4am and cannot sleep further. Says her body is always hot.
